Stay-at-home rules have resulted in big spikes for streamers. The Starz app has risen 44 percent, while new subs have rocketed 142 percent since the March 14 lockdown, notes The Hollywood Reporter.
The top 10 titles domestically on Starz since then are: “Outlander,” “Power,” “Black Sails,” “The Spanish Princess,” “Dublin Murders,” “Wrong Man” and “American Gods.” Feature film hits include “Venom,” “The Equalizer 2” and “Spiderman: Far From Home.”
Parent Lionsgate reported in February the Starz cable/streamer ended the quarter with 26.2 million subscribers, which broke down as 19.9 million linear and 6.3 million OTT customers.
As a special promo, the Starz app is now $5 per month for three months. The regular price is $9/month. It also has a tie-in deal with Amazon Prime Video.
Starz is one of many streamers offering promos or free trials. Self-isolation is the new normal — and streaming helps to entertain and distract us as we quarantine and cope with the COVID-19 outbreak.
Its global streamer, Starzplay, has also rolled out in Europe and Latin America.
