Veteran comedian George Lopez has taken his talents to Netflix with his new stand-up special “We’ll Do It for Half.” The special, which was filmed at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, is now available to stream.
Directed and produced by Troy Miller, “We’ll Do It for Half” features Lopez’s humorous take on “race, politics, and life lessons to be learned from the Latino community; especially the elders. The special dissects cultural differences, emotional support animals, gender reveal parties, elevator etiquette and more,” according to Deadline.
Although the special was filmed before the world was struck by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement took full hold again, the material remains relevant. “You can never rest on your laurels as a performer. You can’t turn a blind eye on any injustice,” Lopez told Entertainment Weekly. “People who work hard shouldn’t be diminished or looked down upon. We have to lift them up.”
The hour-long special follows “George Lopez: The Wall,” which he shot at the Concert Hall at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington in 2017 for HBO. Lopez will also star in “The Tax Collector,” an indie thriller film written and directed by David Ayer. He stars alongside Bobby Soto, Shia LaBeouf and Lana Parrilla.
