What Sinclair Is Saying About Its New Fox RSN Deal With YouTube TV

Earlier today, Sinclair and YouTube TV reached an agreement after sparring over Fox RSN the past week. On Feb. 27, YouTube TV shocked subscribers with the news that they will drop 21 Fox Regional Sports Networks and YES Network beginning Feb. 29. However, the companies managed to reach a temporary extension that saw the channels remain on YouTube TV past the deadline.

Today, it was announced that Sinclair and YouTube TV reached an official agreement that will keep only some of Fox Sports Regional Sports Networks on the service, while the YES Network and other “large-market RSNs” will be dropped.

The Streamable was the first to learn that YES Network, Fox Sports Prime Ticket and Fox Sports West will no longer be available on the service, while the newly launched Marquee Sports Network wasn’t included in the deal.

Fresh off negotiations, Sinclair’s senior vice president and general counsel David Gibber is speaking out. He stated: “We are pleased that YouTube TV was able to agree to terms on 19 of our RSNs and that they will continue to provide subscribers with access to some of the most in-demand sports networks in the nation. Millions of fans across the country tune into sports content daily and, at Sinclair, our goal is to make this as widely accessible as possible.”

Though the two companies were able to agree to get most channels back on the platform, Gibber expressed disappointment over the exclusion of others. “We value our ongoing relationship with YouTube TV, however, we are deeply disappointed with its decision to not carry certain RSNs. We offered competitive market terms but, ultimately, YouTube TV declined,” Gibber said. “We encourage YouTube TV subscribers who value these RSNs to turn to other streaming services or their local cable or satellite provider for continued access, or to directly contact YouTube TV with feedback.”

YouTube TV wasn’t the only Live TV Streaming Service in a dispute with Sinclair over Fox Regional Sports Networks. In late July, Sling TV and Dish Network dropped the channels after being unable to reach an extension. In January, fuboTV dropped the RSNs from their service.
