A Look at Upcoming Streaming Content, Including ‘Cobra Kai’ and ‘Manifest’

The Netflix Original series Cobra Kai has been renewed for a fifth season, which shoots this fall. Cobra Kai Season 4 will debut on Netflix in December. That season sees the return of Karate Kid III bad guy Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith). Series stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka also serve as executive producers.

Netflix

Netflix is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 3,000+ movies, 2,000+ TV Shows, and Netflix Originals like Stranger Things, Squid Game, The Crown, Tiger King, and Bridgerton. They are constantly adding new shows and movies. Some of their Academy Award-winning exclusives include Roma, Marriage Story, Mank, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Netflix offers three plans — on 2 device in HD with their “Standard with Ads” ($6.99) plan, on 2 devices in HD with their “Standard” ($15.49) plan, and 4 devices in up to 4K on their “Premium” ($22.99) plan.

Netflix spends more money on content than any other streaming service meaning that you get more value for the monthly fee.

Here are additional deals and projects:

  • Manifest has been saved by Netflix. The drama will get a fourth and final season at the streamer following its sudden cancellation at NBC. The series will get 20 new episodes to wrap up the story of the passengers of Flight 828. The episodes will be rolled out in parts, with the number of parts and specific episodes in each yet to be determined. The new deal follows a campaign to save the show by fans.

  • Jon Stewart returns to TV on Sept. 30 with his Apple TV+ series, The Problem With Jon Stewart. The weekly current-affairs show takes “a deep-dive on the most important topics currently part of the national conversation. Stewart will be in discussion with the people who are impacted by the issues — as well as those who have a hand in creating the impact,” according to the streamer.

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is a subscription video streaming service for $9.99 a month that includes high-quality original shows and movies including Best Picture winner “CODA,” popular sitcom “Ted Lasso,” and dramas like “The Morning Show” and “Severance.” Apple TV+ is also home to MLB baseball games on Friday nights and MLS Season Pass.

  • Vampire Academy is slated for Peacock, based on a series of young adult paranormal romance novels by Richelle Mead. In a world of privilege and glamour, two young women become friends as the half-humans complete their education at St. Vladimir’s Academy and enter royal vampire society.

  • Paramount+ will stream Players from Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the duo behind the Netflix docuseries-style scripted comedy American Vandal. Players follows a fictional League of Legends esports team as it chases its first championship in years. But to win, it needs the 17-year-old rookie and the 27-year-old veteran to work together.

  • Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, is getting a sequel. The film, released at the end of July, just passed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office. The movie also grossed more than $30 million on Disney+ Premier Access its opening weekend. Scott Sheldon will executive produce the sequel.

Disney+

Disney+ is a video streaming service with over 13,000 series and films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, The Muppets, and more. It is available in 61 countries and 21 languages. It is notable for its popular original series like “The Mandalorian,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Loki,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and “Andor.”

Disney+ has several plans with or without ads. Disney+ Basic with Ads costs $7.99 / month. If you don’t want ads, you can choose Disney+ Premium with No Ads which costs $13.99 / month.

The Premium plan also offers an annual option for $139.99 / year ($11.67/mo.).

  • So Yummy and Blossom channels just launched on the Roku platform in the U.S., Latin America, and Brazil. First Media, which is behind the move, targets millennial women with a network of lifestyle-focused brands. So Yummy TV presents food programming, including new long-format shows such as Unbox’d and Top-Down Challenge, and bite-sized videos with tips for the kitchen. Blossom offers creative short videos on lifestyle, decor, and fashion.

  • Hacks co-creators Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs have signed a multiyear deal with Warner Bros. Television Group. Financial terms were not disclosed. Aniello and Downs will develop original television programming for all WB’s platforms, including WarnerMedia’s HBO Max, where Hacks, starring Jean Smart, streams. Prior to Hacks, Aniello and Downs wrote, directed and executive produced Broad City for HBO.

  • Redbox has expanded its content agreement with Anthem Sports & Entertainment, adding two additional channels to its free live TV streaming service. The music and entertainment streaming service AXS TV Now and combat sports platform Fight Network join Anthem’s Impact Wresting Channel on the Redbox streaming app, available on devices such as Roku, Vizio, Samsung, LG, Xbox, iOS and Android.

Max

Max is a subscription video streaming service that gives access to the full HBO library, along with exclusive Max Originals. There are hubs for content from TLC, HGTV, Food Network, Discovery, TCM, Cartoon Network, Travel Channel, ID, and more. Watch hit series like “The Last of Us,” “House of the Dragon,” “Succession,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and more. Thanks to the B/R Sports add-on, users can watch NBA, MLB, NHL, March Madness, and NASCAR events.

Max has three tiers, an ad-supported plan for $9.99 an ad-free plan for $15.99, and the ultimate tier that includes 4K for $19.99.

All Max subscribers will get the full libraries of shows like “Friends”, “The Big Bang Theory”, “South Park”, “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, “The West Wing”, and more.
