Amazon Prime Video Now Allows US Customers to Create User Profiles

It looks like Amazon Prime Video just got a major upgrade as the service is now allowing subscribers to create user profiles. According to a thread on Reddit, the feature was live in certain territories and just went live in the U.S. today.

Prime Video now allows you to “create and manage multiple profiles within your account with content personalized separately to each profile.” Users can have up to six profiles on one account, and each profile will have its own recommendations, watch history, etc. based on individual preferences. Prime Video users can create their profiles through the Prime Video website, on the Android and iOS versions of the Prime Video app, 10th-gen or higher Fire tablets, the Prime Video app for Fire TV and select devices, such as PlayStation 4.

Because the feature is still new, it may not have rolled out in all parts of the U.S. as yet.

News that Prime Video would allow users to create profiles was initially reported by Engadget back in March. At the time, the offer included India and other countries in Asia and Africa as the rollout was being done in stages, eventually including the U.S. and UK.

Since then, the streamer has announced the addition a new social viewing experience for desktop users, where they can stream Prime Video titles with their friends. The feature called “Watch Party” is available in the U.S. only and supports up to 100 participants in a chat session with synchronized playback of their favorite Prime Video shows.

In order to participate, each streamer must have a Prime or Prime Video subscription and be based on the U.S. You can stream thousands of titles in Prime Video’s catalog including Amazon Originals like “Fleabag,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “The Boys,” “Homecoming” and more.

Amazon also introduced a dedicated Prime Video app for Windows 10 devices worldwide, including desktop PCs, laptops and tablets. With the app, Windows 10 users can stream content online or download it for offline viewing – they previously had to watch from their browsers. The app experience is effectively identical to the browser experience.
