Broadway on Demand, a new streaming service, will debut mid-May. Broadway went dark March 12 and for now, is probably closed until September or later, according to Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League.
To get your Great White Way fix, the streamer offers Broadway shows — live and recorded, exclusive livestream events, interactive platforms, as well as video lessons from top instructors, reports Deadline.
There are two tiers: Those interested can sign up for free here. There is also a premium subscription that includes archival materials, the bulk of live streams and the pay-per-view events.
The streamer kicks off with live concert series “30 Days of Opening Nights.” The shows will stream from Hollywood’s Bourbon Room and raise funds for the performers, musicians, etc. sidelined during the pandemic.
The Broadway on Demand menu includes more than 100 archived shows from around the world.
“Broadway is a giant global brand, and its impact extends far beyond a few blocks in midtown Manhattan,” Broadway on Demand President Sean Cercone stated. “Even before our current crisis, we’ve long dreamt of building a platform that would truly fulfill Broadway’s long-held promise of being the ‘longest street in the world.’ This platform is our way of breaking down geographical and economic barriers so that the entire world can partake in all the wonders that Broadway has to offer.”
The new service competes with BroadwayHD for theater viewers.
