Disney+ Now Has 54.5 Million Subscribers, Company Says They Had 33.5 Million at End of Q2 2020

It looks like the Disney+ reign continues to be on the up and up as the company reported the streaming service has once again garnered new subscribers. In their Q2 earnings report released today, Disney revealed their widely popular streaming service has reached 33.5 million subscribers, but 54.5 million subscribers as of yesterday.

Some of those come from distribution agreements from operators in Europe that bundle the service for their subscribers. This is up from the 26.5 million subscribers they reported last quarter and 28.6 they had as of Feb. 3.

Just last month, Disney announced the company has surpassed 50 million paid subscribers globally, following their launch in India and eight Western European countries (UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland).

Of the 50 million subscribers, approximately eight million of those come from their existing Hotstar service, which was rebranded Disney+ Hotstar for their April 3 launch. Between March 28th and April 8th, the company added 8.5 million subscribers outside of India.

Fellow competitor Netflix recently announced that they reached 182.86 million global subscribers in their Q1 2020 earnings report. Netflix added 15.77 million subscribers since their Q4 2019 earnings report back in January when they reported that they reached 167.09 million global subscribers with 61 million in the U.S.

Amazon, which doesn’t reveal its subscriber numbers, was reported to be standing at 100 million subscribers with 26 million U.S. customers streaming videos, according to a report by Reuters.
