HBO Max Inks Five-Year Deal to Become New Home for ‘Sesame Street’, Deal Includes Full Library, New Series & Annual Specials

HBO Max has snagged yet another show for its growing content library. The upcoming streaming service will become the new home of Sesame Street as the show moves from HBO Now and HBO Go. WarnerMedia and Sesame Workshop sealed a five-year deal that brings five new 35-episode seasons of Sesame Street, four new live-action and animated series, (including an Elmo-hosted talk show and an animated Sesame Street spinoff), annual specials, and the show’s 50-year library, which includes more than 4,500 episodes to the platform.

Content part of the deal includes The Monster at the End of This Show, an animated version of The Monster at the End of this Book; The Not Too Late Show with Elmo a family-centric live-action take on a late-night talk show; a new season of the award-winning animated Esme & Roy, as well as it’s past season which was produced for HBO; a spinoff of Sesame Street called Mecha Builders (working title), and a new docuseries that explores key issues for kids and families.

Similar to the agreement with HBO, Sesame Street episodes will first premiere on HBO Max before airing for free on PBS Kids. While terms of the agreement are still under wraps, Deadline reports HBO Max’s exclusivity period will be similar to the nine-month window new Sesame Street episodes had on HBO before they were made available to PBS and its member stations.

The deal marks the first time Sesame Street’s entire library will be made available and it’s yet another win for HBO Max as the streamer recently secured another five-year deal, to exclusively stream The Big Bang Theory.
