REPORT: 'Law & Order', 'Chicago', & 'New York Undercover' Won't Necessarily Go to Peacock, As NBCU & Dick Wolf Looks For Huge Deal

Renowned producer Dick Wolf may have a huge pay day ahead of him. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wolf along with the executives at Comcast are in early talks to find streaming homes for his widely popular, crime-focused shows—Law and Order, Chicago and New York Undercover.

Wolf is looking to strike a deal where one streaming service licenses the entire catalog of Law & Order and its spinoffs SVU and Criminal Intent; the three Chicago shows; New York Undercover, possibly CBS’ FBI which he also produced, as well as unscripted shows such as Cold Justice. That totals 72 seasons and 1,568 hours of content.

Though Wolf would prefer to keep the entire repertoire under one roof, he and Comcast are likely to have a bigger pay day if each franchise goes to different streamers. A deal for the Law and Order and Chicago libraries could equal one streamer’s entire programming budget for the year, according to the Hollywood Reporter. So far, NBCUniversal’s Peacock and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max have surfaced as potential bidders for the expansive library.

The news comes as streaming services are doling out the big bucks for classic content. Earlier this week, HBO Max scored the rights to exclusively stream The Big Bang Theory when it launches in 2020. Netflix also garnered the rights to Seinfeld, while Peacock announced it would be taking Parks and Recreation from Netflix come 2020.
