WarnerMedia and AT&T are fully focused on its streaming video service that includes HBO, and, during yesterday’s AT&T earnings call, the company’s CEO, Rod Stephenson, said that he company is planning to tease the paid video service to users sometime in either September or October.
Per The Verge:
“We’re going to give you a detailed look at the product, and that includes the breadth of new and existing content, so just stay tuned for that. We’re making significant investments here, and we think our customers are going to love this product.”
Following AT&T’s recent addition of media industry veteran Bob Greenblatt to lead the direct-to-consumer WarnerMedia service, the Greenblatt team’s top priority is developing the new SVOD service, which will be centered on HBO and significantly enhanced by the Warner Bros. library.
Added Stephenson in the earnings call: “We’re going to give you a detailed look at the product, and that includes the breadth of new and existing content, so just stay tuned for that. We’re making significant investments here, and we think our customers are going to love this product.”
The news comes following Disney’s recent preview of its Disney+ subscription video service, which also gave consumers a price and expected launch date, so WarnerMedia and AT&T are just trying to keep up.
The standalone subscription service from WarnerMedia and AT&T doesn’t include the already existing DIRECTV NOW or Watch TV platforms.
