YouTube TV keeps Weather Channel in new deal with Allen Media Group
The deal will allow YouTube TV subscribers to continue watching The Weather Channel and other networks owned by AMG.
Spring can be a notoriously wild season for weather across the United States, with temperatures alternating between the last grasps of winter and the first hints of summer. That’s why having access to a top weather forecaster like The Weather Channel is critical, and YouTube TV customers will be happy to know that a new carriage deal between the streamer and Weather Channel’s owner, Allen Media Group, has now been signed, preserving access to the channel.
Key Details:
- We have terms: YouTube TV has a new carriage deal with Allen Media Group.
- Lots of content: The deal embraces The Weather Channel, the free streamer Local Now, and more.
- No drama: The agreement took far less public wrangling than YouTube TV’s last carriage deal with Disney.
New customers can save $15 per month for 5 months.
YouTube TV’s new carriage deal with Allen Media Group was first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter. The multi-year deal means that The Weather Channel, JusticeCentral.TV, Comedy.TV, and Recipe.TV will all remain available for YouTube TV subscribers for the foreseeable future.
YouTube TV customers will also be able to continue watching Allen Media Group’s news streaming service Local Now, which compiles free news streaming channels from around the United States on a single platform. It offers both local and national news channels.
“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Google by continuing to provide our weather, news, comedy, court, and lifestyle networks to YouTube TV’s millions of subscribers,” AMG founder Byron Allen said in a statement.
The deal was far less dramatic than YouTube TV’s last carriage negotiation with Disney. Last fall, Disney and YouTube failed to agree on a new contract before their deadline, leaving YouTube TV subscribers without the ability to watch channels like ABC and ESPN for weeks. The two sides finally reached an agreement in November.
“We are pleased to continue our relationship with Allen Media Group,” YouTube TV executive Emily Washkowitz said. “Our goal is to provide a consistent and diverse lineup for our subscribers, and this renewed agreement helps us maintain that commitment.”
