Amazon’s push to own the streaming experience with Prime Video Channels has me sold
Over the past few years, Amazon has made a big push towards owning more of the streaming experience for people. Prime Video has beefed up its originals, making it a serious competitor to the other big streamers, like Netflix. However, things really stand out for Prime Video in its Channels experience. Prime Video Channels is a unique approach to streaming that allows people to subscribe to multiple streaming services right through their Prime Video account.
This approach from Amazon both simplifies the streaming experience (which is pretty fragmented) and removes some of the confusion. Any time there’s an option that makes things easier and more convenient for me, you better believe that I am going to take advantage.
Why does this strategy make sense?
The main appeal of Prime Video Channels is in its ability to become the central place in which you manage your streaming subscriptions. Currently, you have to have separate accounts for each streaming service you want to subscribe to, which means anytime you need to update a payment method, you need to check each and every one of them. With Prime Video Channels, you can update and manage them all from a single portal on the web, which is far more convenient.
We’ve seen Amazon continue to add new subscription services to the list of available options, which is important. Amazon realizes that in order to complete its vision, it needs to have a truly diverse selection of services to which people can subscribe. From niche streamers to major entertainment platforms, Prime Video Channels really does have options to meet the needs of just about everyone right now.

How can Amazon continue to improve Prime Video Channels?
While the current offering is strong, there remain opportunities for Amazon to further enhance the Prime Video Channels experience. For me, the biggest area for improvement involves landing some of the bigger streaming services. Currently, options such as Hulu, Disney+, and Netflix are not accessible through Prime Video Channels, which definitely feels like a big miss. Integrating these popular platforms would dramatically increase the appeal and comprehensiveness of the service, making it a true one-stop shop for streaming.
Beyond having the largest streaming services, Amazon could strengthen its value proposition by offering more aggressive pricing incentives, particularly annual subscriptions. As it stands now, Amazon offers Prime Video Channel deals around major shopping events (like Prime Day, Black Friday, etc.), but they are often for short durations. The price drops are a great way to try out a new streaming service, but for those who would rather lock in a long-term discount for a service, they still need to go directly instead of through Amazon.
Introducing more competitive long-term subscription discounts through Prime Video Channels would make the bundled option even more financially attractive, encouraging broader adoption and retention among users.
Is it time to move your subscriptions?
For those currently juggling multiple streaming subscriptions, consolidating where you make payments certainly makes sense. The convenience of managing all of them in a single place offers a clear advantage, simplifying billing and access. However, if your preference is to sign up and pay for a full year of a service in advance to secure a discount, the current Prime Video Channels offering may not be the ideal solution for you. Many individual streaming services provide significant annual savings that are not yet consistently matched when subscribing through Amazon’s platform.
