What audio accessibility options are on Pluto TV?
Does Pluto TV live up to its reputation as a free streamer when it comes to offering multiple language dub options?
Paramount+ isn’t the only streaming service that falls under the ownership of Paramount Global. The company also has a free streamer in Pluto TV, which offers hundreds of free streaming channels — including options with live sports — and thousands of on-demand titles as well.
Is it possible to listen to the TV shows and movies in the Pluto catalog in a language other than English? We thought that was a worthwhile question to explore, and we have the details of our examination laid out for you below!
What are the audio accessibility options on Pluto TV?
How to change languages on Pluto TV
Pluto TV makes it easy to switch between languages with its on-demand content. All you have to do is start the show or movie you want to watch, wait for a pre-roll ad break to finish if any, and then pause the title. Once you do that, pull up the playback controls.
The subtitles and audio button is found on the bottom-left of the screen on the web, in a three-dot menu on the bottom-right on the Pluto mobile app, and on the bottom-right as a standalone button on the smart TV app. Just click, choose your language option, and start watching.
What language dubs are available on Pluto TV?
Despite checking through 10 titles, I didn’t notice any language dubs other than English on Pluto TV. That’s not terribly shocking considering it’s a free streamer, but at least the service has English with audio descriptions available on some titles. I found that this option was much more readily available on newer titles from CBS as opposed to older shows and movies.
In addition, Pluto TV offers a selection of titles in their original languages, including Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. You can check Pluto’s catalog for free to see if it has additional language options.
Will Pluto TV offer more language dubs in the future?
It’s possible that titles on Pluto TV will get more language dubs in the future, but not terribly likely. Paramount wants to upsell audiences to Paramount+ subscriptions, where they get additional features like various language dubs, and making this widely available on Pluto TV doesn’t seem like it’s in the service’s immediate future.
