What are the best drama binges on Netflix right now?

These are the best dramas to binge on Netflix.

Netflix has a ton of great dramas, but what stands out to me is how different they all feel to binge. Some shows pull you in with nonstop tension, others hook you with mystery, and a few just slowly take over your brain without you even realizing it. The four shows below all do it in completely different ways, but they all have one thing in common: once you’re in, you’re really in. And they all have multiple seasons and tons of episodes, which culminate in a final BOOM at the end of the series. So, here are my picks for the best binge-worthy drama TV shows streaming on Netflix right now.

Best binge-worthy drama shows streaming on Netflix

Best criminal binge: ‘Ozark’

“Ozark” is one of my favorite shows of all time, regardless of platform. It follows financial advisor Marty Byrde (played by Jason Bateman) as he relocates his wife, Wendy (Laura Linney), and their kids to the Ozarks to launder money for a cartel after a deal goes wrong — not that he has a choice. It’s launder or die. Now, a lot of shows in this genre have down seasons or episodes that feel like filler because they ran out of ideas or budget (looking at you, “Breaking Bad”), but not “Ozark.” Every episode tightens the screws until you find yourself in the absolutely brutal, unforgettable third season, the one that introduces Wendy Byrde’s brother, Ben Davis. Tom Pelphrey gives one of the most heartbreaking performances I’ve ever seen. And the end of that season? I can’t.

That relentless compounding tension is what makes “Ozark” such a ridiculous binge. Every decision creates a bigger problem, every episode ends on the worst possible story beat, and the show just keeps tightening the pressure on Marty and Wendy until it feels impossible to stop watching. But it’s not just the plot that gets you — it’s the marriage. Watching those two try to survive while slowly turning into something much darker than you could ever imagine is the real hook. The series finale is cold, quiet, devastating… and perfect.

Best mystery binge: ‘Stranger Things’

“Stranger Things” was the show that officially turned Netflix into a TV powerhouse. The show kicks off when Will Byers disappears in a small town, uncovering secret government experiments, supernatural forces, and a mysterious girl named Eleven with telekinetic abilities. From there, you’re bouncing between Mike, Dustin, and Lucas trying to find their friend, Joyce refusing to accept that her son is gone, and Hopper slowly realizing this is way bigger than a missing kid case. The show mixes sci-fi, horror, and ’80s throwback vibes in a way that somehow feels both familiar and totally fresh, and the cast is great right from the start.

The reason it’s such an easy binge is how it’s constantly feeding you new questions. What is the Upside Down? What happened to Will? What can Eleven actually do? Every answer opens up something bigger, and the show keeps stacking those reveals across different storylines that all start to converge. At the same time, it never loses its heart. You’re locked into Mike and Eleven, Jonathan and Nancy, Joyce and Hopper, all these relationships that give the mystery real weight. So even when things get dark, there’s always something grounding you. It’s tense, it’s fun, and it just keeps expanding in a way that makes hitting “next episode” feel automatic.

Best prestige binge: ‘The Crown’

“The Crown” wasn’t an instant hit for me. It took a few episodes to really sink in, but once it did, I was all in. If you’re unfamiliar, the show chronicles the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, starting with her early days taking the throne in her 20s and moving through decades of political crises, family drama, and cultural shifts. What’s really cool is how the show evolves over time. Claire Foy plays the younger Elizabeth in those early seasons, Olivia Colman takes over as she settles into the role during the middle years, and Imelda Staunton plays her later in life. Each era feels distinct, with different tones, different pressures, and even different versions of the same relationships. It moves slower than most shows, but the sheer scale of it, the performances, the way it recreates these moments in history, it’s just on another level.

What makes it bingeable is how each episode feels complete on its own, but still pulls you forward. You can finish one episode and feel satisfied, then immediately want to see what happens next as the timeline jumps from moment to moment, from Churchill’s early influence to Diana entering the royal family and everything that follows. And because you know where history is heading, there’s this underlying tension the whole time. You’re not watching to find out what happens, you’re watching to see how it affects these people behind closed doors. It somehow turns royal family drama into something that feels just as gripping as any thriller, just in a quieter, more controlled way.

The Crown

November 4, 2016

The Crown tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century. Two houses, two courts, one Crown.

Best pulse-pounding binge: ‘Squid Game’

“Squid Game” is still the most stressed I’ve ever been watching a TV show. The premise is ruthless: hundreds of financially desperate contestants compete in deadly versions of children’s games for a massive cash prize… and if they lose, they die. Nothing else, movie or TV, has hit me like this. The closest comparison I’ve got is seeing “Gravity” in a packed theater.

What makes it impossible to stop watching is just how high the stakes are. It’s literally life or death for these players, and every win comes at a cost. But the real hook is the relationships, especially in Season 1. Gi-hun and Sang-woo go from childhood friends to something way darker, Gi-hun and Ali are building a genuine bond early on, Sae-byeok and Ji-yeong in that quiet, devastating marble game. The show makes you care about these people, then puts them in situations where they have to turn on each other to survive. That’s what keeps you going. You’re not just watching to see who wins. You’re watching to see who breaks… and it’s as brutal as it sounds.
