Best movie on Tubi this week: ‘Speed Demon’

Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean you can’t stretch the spooky season a little longer! Especially when there’s a new horror movie with a premise as weird (and fun) as “Speed Demon.” The movie follows Sister Lu (Katie Cassidy), a nun who’s having some doubts about her faith, as she boards a train from Montreal to New York. She’s on it with Father Novak (William H. Macy), who is an exorcist. Well, that comes in handy when one of the passengers is… You guessed it, a demon.
It’s named Asmodeus, and it starts possessing passengers while the train starts speeding out of control. An action horror on a train is not a mash-up I ever saw coming, and that’s what makes it so interesting. “Speed Demon” drops on Wednesday, Nov. 4 on Tubi.
Speed Demon
Aboard a high-speed train, a nun who has lost her faith must perform her first exorcism on a possessed passenger hellbent on crashing the runaway train.
Best TV show on Tubi this week: ‘Legion’

What happens when a superpower looks like a mental illness? That’s the question “Legion” tries to answer. It follows David Haller (Dan Stevens), who’s spent years in and out of psychiatric hospitals with a diagnosis that reads schizophrenia. He hears voices, sees visions, and never really knows if what he’s experiencing is real or imagined. Then Melanie Bird (Jean Smart) and her team give him another option: what if he, like the rest of the mutants at her facility, is just gifted?
What’s fun about this one is that, just like David, you’re trying to determine if what you’re seeing is a memory or a vision or really real — and it does a great job playing with lighting, editing, and music choices to build the world. Underrated show, and now it’s free on Tubi!
Legion
David Haller, AKA Legion, is a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Best movie on Pluto TV this week: ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’

I rewatched James Cameron’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” a few months ago, and what a masterclass in filmmaking craft. I was quickly reminded why it’s one of the greatest sci-fi action movies of all time, as Arnold Schwarzenegger calculates his way around as the Terminator, protecting young John Connor (Edward Furlong) from the more advanced T-1000 (Robert Patrick).
The suspense, the action sequences, the emotional moments, the motivations — it’s all here, and it’s undeniable. Yes, it’s a great movie, but if you want to study a film for its craft, there may be no better pick… though “Raiders of the Lost Ark” also comes to mind — and it’s free on Pluto TV too! Double feature for the win!
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Ten years after the events of the original, a reprogrammed T-800 is sent back in time to protect young John Connor from the shape-shifting T-1000. Together with his mother Sarah, he fights to stop Skynet from triggering a nuclear apocalypse.
Best TV show on Pluto TV this week: ‘Eternally Yours’

It was only a matter of time before “Ghosts” creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman took on another supernatural comedy series. And this time it’s vampires! “Eternally Yours” stars Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards as Charles and Liz, a vampire couple living in modern-day Seattle.
The problem is their marriage has hit a rut… which is kind of understandable as they’ve been married for 500 years! But then things get even worse when their daughter Emma (Helen J Shen) brings home her first (very human) boyfriend, Max, played by Jaren Lewison. He has no idea what he’s getting into… or what it means to commit to this kind of (really long-lasting) relationship. The first three episodes are currently streaming on Pluto TV for free, and if you’re looking for a new comedy, definitely give it a try.
Eternally Yours
Charles and Liz are a charming, married 500-year-old vampire couple whose relationship has survived centuries because, as vampires, divorce isn’t exactly an option. Together, they navigate modern society and their daughter dating a human.

Best movie on The Roku Channel this week: ‘Second Chance Holiday’

Too early for Christmas movies? Think again, because there’s a dating expert out there who needs a new date. In “Second Chance Holiday,” Chelsey Banks (Ayesha Curry) keeps getting dumped during the holidays. But when she meets her old high school sweetheart, played by Matthew Daddario, she wonders if maybe all those relationships ended for a reason… to lead her here?
Yes, I know Halloween was only last week, but the Christmas movie season is officially here! “Second Chance Holiday” starts streaming on Thursday, Nov. 5, only on The Roku Channel.
Second Chance Holiday
Dating expert Chelsey (Ayesha Curry) is determined to break her so-called “curse” of always getting dumped during the holiday season. But when fate reunites her with her high school flame (Matthew Daddario), she wonders if her bad luck might just be the universe’s way of leading her back to her first love.
Best TV show on The Roku Channel this week: ‘Fresh Off the Boat’

Set in the 1990s, “Fresh Off the Boat” follows the Huang family as they move from Washington, D.C., to suburban Orlando, where dad Louis (Randall Park) hopes to make it big with his new steakhouse. His wife Jessica (Constance Wu) isn’t so thrilled about the move, and their oldest son Eddie (Hudson Yang) is busy trying to fit in at school through his love of hip-hop and basketball.
It’s a funny take on the immigrant experience and all the little ways parents and kids see the world differently. Park and Wu are great together, and there’s plenty of heart underneath the family chaos. The show ran for six seasons on ABC, and now you can binge it for free on The Roku Channel.
Fresh Off the Boat
A ’90s-set single-camera comedy about a hip-hop-loving Asian kid growing up in suburban Orlando, being raised by an immigrant father obsessed with all things American and an immigrant mother often bewildered by white culture.
