Why ‘Colin From Accounts’ is the underrated rom-com to watch on Paramount+
Why ‘Colin From Accounts’ is the underrated rom-com to watch on Paramount+
With two seasons streaming (and a third on the way) it’s the funniest Paramount+ show you probably skipped.
Paramount+ might be known for its big crime sagas and deep bench of “Star Trek” shows and ““Dexter” reboots but when it comes to comedy, it’s got a sleeper hit that most people still haven’t heard of. “Colin From Accounts” is funny, awkward, unexpectedly sweet, and absolutely deserves more attention. Critics have gone nuts for it (literally 100% on Rotten Tomatoes), it’s racked up awards in Australia, and it’s already two seasons in (with a third on the way). If you like your rom-coms sharp and messy with a lot of heart, this is the under-the-radar gem you should be watching next.

Why ‘Colin From Accounts’ is the most underrated comedy series on Paramount+
“Colin From Accounts” is a messy little rom-com about two strangers, Gordon and Ashley, who get thrown together after a random accident with a dog. What starts as a chaotic meet-cute quickly turns into a funny, heartfelt look at love, adulthood, and all the awkward stuff in between.
Now, there’s a lot of great shows out there, and the reality is that some of those great shows get buried under an avalanche of content. And that’s even more likely to happen if the show is an import like “Colin From Accounts.” Season 1 finally showed up in the U.S. in November 2023, a whole year after it already blew up in Australia. By the time it landed on Paramount+, all the hype had cooled off, and the streamer didn’t exactly roll out the red carpet. Season 2 dropped in September 2024 with the same super quiet release.
Then there’s Paramount+ itself. Compared to Netflix or Hulu, it’s a smaller pond, and most of the promo energy goes into the big fish like “Dexter: Resurrection” or “Tulsa King.” So a half-hour Australian rom-com? Easy to miss. Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall are stars in their home country, but in the States, they’re basically new faces. With no A-listers to plaster on posters, the show just kind of floated under the radar. Now, I’m hoping that Season 3 is set to head into production in January 2026, and Paramount+ will throw a little more weight behind marketing it.
And to be fair, Paramount+ has yet to really try to push it to regular viewers. They hyped it up in press releases and bragged about the perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, but that was all industry chatter. Out of curiosity, I just flipped through the Paramount+ “Trending” section, and it’s nowhere to be found. That’s a section that includes “The Andy Griffith Show” and “I Love Lucy.” Not to take anything away from those shows, but why wouldn’t you promote a newer rom-com TV show when rom-com TV shows are all the rage right now? Especially when you consider that critics are obsessed with this show. It’s got a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. And it really is one of the best comedies they’ve got.
What is ‘Colin From Accounts’ about?
At its core, “Colin From Accounts” is a rom-com, but one that doesn’t play by the usual rules. It follows Gordon (Patrick Brammall), a forty-something craft brewer, and Ashley (Harriet Dyer), a med student, who meet in the weirdest way possible: through a random accident involving a stray dog. From there, their lives get tangled up in each other’s chaos. He’s kind of stuck in his ways, she’s figuring herself out, and together they’re navigating all the awkward, funny, and occasionally painful messiness of falling for someone when your life isn’t picture-perfect.
The humor comes from the little things, like awkward encounters, embarrassing mistakes, bad timing, etc., but it also digs into the deeper stuff, like loneliness, responsibility, and what it means to actually grow up. The chemistry between Brammall and Dyer is off the charts (probably because they co-created the show together), and it keeps the whole thing grounded. It’s the kind of comedy where you’ll laugh one second and then get hit with a moment that’s way more emotional than you were expecting. That mix is what makes it special. If you’re looking for a break from darker stories and want to enjoy yourself, this is the show to watch on Paramount+.
Colin from Accounts
Ashley and Gordon are two single(ish), complex humans who are brought together by a car accident and an injured dog. Flawed, funny people choosing each other and being brave enough to show their true self, scars and all, as they navigate life together.

Other underappreciated comedy TV shows on Paramount+
If you finish “Colin From Accounts” and want more laughs on Paramount+, start with “Key & Peele.” This is my favorite sketch show, created by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. It’s loaded with hilarious scenarios (my favorite is the “planning a heist” sketch where the plan is to just “get a job” and walk out of the bank 30 years later with the money they’ve been paid to work there), and it still hits years later.
Another one worth a binge is “Ghosts.” This U.S. remake of the British hit follows a couple who inherit a rundown country house only to find it’s very much occupied… by a bunch of quirky ghosts from different eras.
And if you want something completely different, check out “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” It’s an animated comedy that flips the usual “Star Trek” script, focusing on the underpaid crew working below deck instead of the big-shot captains. It’s packed with in-jokes for longtime fans but still works as a goofy workplace comedy in space.
