Missed ‘Ready or Not 2’? It just dropped on Hulu

Missed ‘Ready or Not 2’? It just dropped on Hulu

Samara Weaving returns for a bigger, bloodier follow-up that turns one cursed family into a much larger nightmare.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.

Tara and I saw “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” in theaters when it came out because we both loved the first movie, and honestly, this is exactly the kind of horror-thriller I’m always hoping for. It’s tongue-in-cheek, tense but not legitimately scary, very violent, definitely gory, and funny in a way that never undercuts the danger. The set pieces are big and nasty and ridiculous in the right way, and Samara Weaving is still perfect as Grace.

The first “Ready or Not” had that great trapped-in-a-nightmare-house setup, but this one blows the whole thing open into something bigger, weirder, and more chaotic. It didn’t totally take over the culture when it hit theaters, but now that it’s on Hulu, it feels like exactly the kind of movie you’re going to wonder why you didn’t hear more about it. So if it slipped past you, here’s why “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” is the best under-the-radar thriller movie on Hulu right now.

Best under-the-radar thriller movie on Hulu

Why ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ is the most underrated thriller movie on Hulu

To be clear, Hulu isn’t hiding “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.” I found it right on the homepage when I was skimming the movie library the other day. But as soon as I saw it, I remembered how much fun Tara and I had watching this one in theaters.

It has the bones of a normal horror sequel, with Samara Weaving back, Radio Silence returning to direct, and the same nightmare-game mythology from the first movie. But instead of just trapping Grace in another mansion and running the same play again, the movie gets way more unhinged. Now there are satanic rich families, occult power structures, succession drama, loopholes, rituals, exploding people, and a whole bigger game happening around Grace because she survived the first one.

And that’s what I liked about it — it takes what works from the first movie and dials everything up up up. Sure, it’s not as clean as the original, which is basically: survive the night as your new husband’s family hunts you in their mansion. The sequel starts literally at the end of the first movie, and Grace finds out the Le Domas family was just one piece of a much bigger satanic rich-person system, and now multiple awful dynasties are fighting over who gets the High Seat.

But the biggest upgrade is Faith, Grace’s estranged sister, because now it’s not just one person trying to survive. It’s two sisters trying to stay alive while dragging all their old hurt, guilt, and history through the bloodbath with them. That gives the movie a real heart underneath all the chaos and guts.

Now, Samara Weaving is still the whole reason this thing works. Grace could easily become a cartoon character at this point, but Weaving never plays her like that. She’s exhausted, furious, traumatized, and completely over everyone’s satanic rich-person nonsense. Kathryn Newton also gives the movie a different shape as Faith, which keeps the sequel from being only about mythology. For me, that’s what makes it such a strong under-the-radar pick. It’s more of what worked on a much bigger scale, with a great family emotional spine underneath.

Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.

What is ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ about?

“Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” picks up after Grace survives the deadly family ritual from the first movie, only to find out that the nightmare was much bigger than one rich, cursed household. Her survival triggers a new game involving a wider circle of powerful, devil-worshipping families, all fighting for control of an occult hierarchy. Grace is pulled back into another brutal night with her estranged sister, Faith, caught in the chaos, too. Basically, if Grace can survive until dawn, she wins. If one of these ridiculously rich psychos kills her first, they get the power instead.

Other underappreciated thriller movies on Hulu

If you’re into “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” and want more underappreciated thrillers on Hulu, start with these. “Send Help” has Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien stranded together after a plane crash, which flips their office power dynamic into a nasty little island survival fight. “F Marry Kill” has Lucy Hale playing a true-crime junkie who gets shoved onto dating apps right as a killer called the Swipe Right Killer is targeting women, which is a very dumb-fun hook in exactly the right way. And “Saltburn” is the class-war freakout pick, with Barry Keoghan’s Oliver getting pulled into Jacob Elordi’s rich Oxford world and then spending the summer at that family’s deeply cursed estate. Different vibes, but all three pair nicely with “Ready or Not 2” if you want thrillers with blood, bad behavior, or awful people slowly losing control.
