Does Hulu allow you to turn off autoplay?
Does Hulu allow you to turn off autoplay?
Autoplay is pretty noticeable on Hulu, so does the streamer let you take control of the setting?
Hulu has earned the ire of customers more than once, whether it be for a smaller-scale issue like the loss of a license to stream a TV show or movie, or a larger-scale problem like the sometimes-ridiculous volume of commercials on the streamer. However, from a settings standpoint, Hulu actually does a decent job of allowing a subscriber to customize their experience.
Does that extend to autoplay? We’ll let you know more about adjusting autoplay settings on Hulu, whether you can control it on every device, and more here.
Everything you need to know about autoplay on Hulu
Can you turn off autoplay on Hulu?
Hulu makes its autoplay pretty easy to control on any device in one sense. You can turn autoplay of next episodes off on the web, on smart TV, or on your mobile device, but autoplay previews is a different story; you can disable this setting on smart TV, but not on the web or on mobile devices.
How to turn off autoplay on Hulu
If you’re using the Hulu smart TV app, open Settings in the navigation bar (scroll left or select back to open the nav bar on Hulu). Choose settings, then move to the autoplay settings and toggle them on or off. You can adjust both autoplay previews and autoplay of the next episode from this menu.
On your mobile device, open the Hulu app and tap the Account icon. Click settings, then switch autoplay on or off.
On the web, start a show or movie and call up the playback controls. Find the gear-shaped Settings icon, open the menu, and adjust autoplay to your liking.
Do you have to adjust autoplay on each device with Hulu?
Yes, you have to adjust autoplay on every device individually with Hulu. Changing the setting on one device will not affect the others, which makes it a tad more inconvenient for some viewers.
Can you turn autoplay back on with Hulu?
Undoubtedly. All you need to do is open the Settings menu once again, then toggle the autoplay settings back on whenever you want the feature restored.
Will Hulu unify its autoplay settings in the future?
I wouldn’t count on it. Disney doesn’t see a long-term future for the Hulu app, which will be fully integrated into Disney+ sometime in 2026. That means it’s not likely to see a large amount of user interface changes in the next year or so — Disney is highly unlikely to go to the time and expense of putting in major work on an app it plans to sunset.
