Does Philo allow users to download shows and movies?
The Philo Core package has some great features, but does it let viewers download TV or movies?
Philo has built a reputation based on zigging while the rest of the industry zags. Skeptics never imagined a live TV streaming service could survive without offering major sports channels like ESPN, or local broadcast channels such as CBS or Fox. But year after year, Philo keeps churning ahead, and it still maintains a starting price of less than $35 per month.
Customers even get access to AMC+, HBO Max, and discovery+ when they sign up for a subscription to Philo. The service has an intriguing mix of cable channels, too, but what’s the deal with its features? Can you download TV shows and movies for watching offline with Philo?
Does Philo let you download TV shows and movies?
Can you download titles with Philo?
No. Like essentially every live TV streaming service other than YouTube TV, Philo will not let you download any TV shows or movies to watch offline. Live TV streamers operate under different licensing agreements and other restrictions in their deals with programmers than on-demand streaming services do, and whatever the particulars may be, Philo does not let viewers download any titles to watch offline.
How does Philo’s DVR work?
Philo offers unlimited Cloud DVR as part of a Core subscription, which means you can record content that’s currently airing or scheduled to air on Philo. You can save these titles for up to a year at no extra cost with your Philo subscription, but you do have to be connected to the internet to watch.
Once you save a TV episode or movie on Philo, every time that show or movie plays on a channel included in your subscription going forward, it will be recorded automatically. You can see all saved shows and movies on the Saved page, and use the Recordings tab to see all recorded episodes.
