Does Sling TV allow you to download TV shows and movies?
Sling has a wide range of on-demand content available, but are you allowed to download any of it for offline viewing?
Sling TV is quite well known for providing customers with a superior level of content, as well as choice. Sling offers smaller channel packages, it’s true, but it still provides most of the biggest-name cable channels on the market, and a variety of subscription options lets customers choose how long they want to watch for and which channels they receive.
Most live TV streaming services like Sling don’t allow viewers to download TV shows and movies for offline viewing; that feature is normally reserved for on-demand streaming services. But Sling TV does things differently from its fellow live TV streamers as a matter of course, so does that mean you can use the service to download shows and movies for offline viewing?
Unfortunately, Sling TV operates much like its fellow live TV services when it comes to downloads. The streaming service does not let its customers download any TV shows or movies to mobile or other devices for offline viewing; if you want to watch Sling TV, you’ll need an internet connection.
That extends to the Sling Freestream platform as well. Freestream is an ad-supported streaming platform that includes on-demand content as well as free ad-supported streaming TV channels; however, despite the lack of subscription fees or the need to be a paid Sling user to access Freestream, the service does not offer the ability to download shows or movies.
Paid Sling subscribers get access to a large selection of on-demand episodes from the channels included in their packages. While these are also not available to be downloaded, they give Sling customers access to a great selection of content at any time — without being beholden to live viewing schedules.
Sling plans also come with 50 hours of Cloud DVR included, so you can at least record and watch TV shows and movies with your plan. If 50 hours isn’t quite enough for you, you can pay an extra $5 per month on top of your subscription price to upgrade to unlimited Cloud DVR storage.
