When Can You Stream ‘Smile 2’ at Home on Paramount+?
‘Smile 2’ sees the curse pass to a new host, and comes to theaters right in time for Spooky Season.
There are fewer than two weeks left until Halloween, and Paramount Pictures wants to get Spooky Season rolling in style. Following the surprise success of the first film in the “Smile” horror franchise in 2022, the studio is releasing “Smile 2” on Friday, Oct. 18 to help audiences get into the spirit of the season, while also giving them an ample dosage of delightful frights. But, if you would prefer to watch the film from the safe, secure comfort of your couch, I’ll give my best guess as to when you’ll be able to stream it at home below.
Key Details:
- “Smile 2” has been a hit so far with critics and fans.
- The film is distributed by Paramount and will therefore stream on Paramount+ first.
- Past movie releases indicated that “Smile 2” will take a fairly short time to reach Paramount+.
Watch the Trailer for ‘Smile 2’:
“Smile 2” continues the gruesome and horrific saga of the Smile Entity’s curse. Ex-police officer Joel watched it consume Rose Cotter with his own eyes, and that means he now carries the curse unless he passes it on to a new victim before it can claim him too…
The film stars Namoi Scott as a world-famous pop artist with substance abuse issues who witnesses the Smile Entity overwhelm a drug dealer. As she prepares for a comeback tour, Scott’s Skye is plagued by disturbing hallucinations. Skye must outrun the entity before she becomes its next victim.
The movie hasn’t made its way to a large preview audience yet, but critics who have seen it thus far are fairly impressed. The movie has an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and more than 100 reviewers have weighed in with their thoughts on it so far.
When Will ‘Smile 2’ Stream on Paramount+?
“Smile 2” is being distributed by Paramount Pictures, much like the first film in the franchise. That means that like its predecessor, “Smile 2” will be available to stream on Paramount+ once it finishes its exclusive run in theaters and on premium video-on-demand platforms such as Prime Video or Vudu.
There are two data points that lead me to think “Smile 2” won’t take very long to reach Paramount+. First is the release window of the first “Smile” movie; that film was released in late September 2022 and came to Paramount+ 46 days later in mid-November.
That was two years ago, and Paramount’s strategy may well have changed since. But the new thriller “A Quiet Place: Day One” came out in June 2024 and streamed on Paramount+ in late August, 60 days after originally debuting in theaters.
Given that information, my prediction is that “Smile 2” will come out on Paramount+ on Dec. 17, 60 days after its theatrical release. Dec. 17 is a Tuesday, which is a date Paramount+ has historically released new movies in the past, so the timing lines up. The calendar may say it’s Christmastime, but viewers will be able to step back into Spooky Season with a rewatch of “Smile 2.”
