When will ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ race onto streaming?
Sonic faces his toughest test yet in this latest sequel, but when will you find it available to watch at home?
The fastest hedgehog on the planet Earth is speeding back into cinemas this weekend. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is officially debuting in theaters on Friday, Dec. 20, and even though he’s broken just about every speed record there is, the movie isn’t available to stream at home just yet. We’ll let you know when we expect you’ll be able to watch it with a subscription below!
Key Details:
- “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” has registered big critical and audience approval ratings.
- The movie is being distributed domestically by Paramount, and thus will end up on Paramount+.
- It could be a very short wait to see “Sonic 3” stream there.
Watch a trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”:
Sonic is back, and this time he and his friends will have to face their most dangerous adversary yet. The speedy hedgehog reunites with his friends Knuckles and Tails in order to face Shadow, a mysterious enemy with powers they’ve never encountered before. Outmatched at last, the team must try to make an unexpected alliance to try to save the planet.
“Sonic 3” is a big hit with critics and preview audiences alike. The movie has a critical score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a whopping 98% of audiences who have had an early screening say the movie is well worth fans’ time.
When will ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ stream on Paramount+?
The first two “Sonic” movies are already streaming on Paramount+, and Paramount Pictures is distributing the third movie in the United States. That means “Sonic 3” will join its predecessors once it’s done with an exclusive period in theaters and on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) streamers like Prime Video and the Apple TV store.
I’m a little wary of using “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” to predict when “Sonic 3” will arrive on Paramount+. That’s because “Sonic 2” only took 46 days to reach the streamer after debuting in theaters, and with the hype building around the third movie, I can’t escape the feeling that the studio will try to keep it in cinemas longer in order to maximize its earnings.
Paramount’s releases this year haven’t exactly helped provide any clarity. “A Quiet Place: Day One” had a window of 60 days before reaching Paramount+, but “Smile 2” had the same 46-day theatrical period as “Sonic 2.”
The deciding factor here is that “A Quiet Place: Day One” had a global box office of more than $250 million, which I expect “Sonic 3” to meet or exceed. Therefore, I will predict that the movie will come to Paramount+ 60 days after its initial release, which would mean it will debut on the streamer on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025. It could come to streaming as early as Tuesday, Feb. 4 if Paramount decides to opt for the 46-day window it used for “Sonic 2.”
