HBO’s Casey Bloys to head up streaming for Paramount and WBD

HBO’s Casey Bloys to head up streaming for Paramount and WBD

Paramount CEO David Ellison has tapped the long-tenured Bloys to lead streaming operations for the combined company.

WBD's board is recommending rejection of Paramount's hostile takeover bid.

HBO content head Casey Bloys will have a key role in the new, combined Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. Bloys has been responsible for many of the major decisios that have kept HBO at the forefront of prestige TV for over two decades, and now will bring his experience, taste, and reputation to the combined company as its head of streaming operations.

Key Details:

  • I choose you: Paramount CEO David Ellison has picked Casey Bloys to lead the combined streaming business with WBD.
  • In and out: Current Paramount streaming head Cindy Holland has resigned.
  • Consistency is key: Ellison feared that losing Bloys would hurt the prestigious HBO brand.

Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison has made his first big executive decision in choosing Bloys to run streaming for the newly combined Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. Bloys will have a big job, being responsible for the combined efforts of both HBO Max and Paramount+.

Bloys has a sterling reputation as a programmer, and under his watch, HBO has produced hits like “Succession,” “House of the Dragon,” “Veep,” “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria,” “The Last of Us,” “Hacks,” and “The Pitt,” just to name a few. HBO has continued to be the preeminent prestige TV programmer during his tenure, and The Wall Street Journal reports that Ellison feared losing Bloys because it might damage the HBO brand.

With the selection of Bloys, Paramount streaming chief Cindy Holland has exited the company. In a parting statement, Holland wrote, “David is optimizing for HBO stability as we move into this next chapter, and I fully support that.”

Ellison called Holland a “force of nature” in his statement praising her efforts following her departure. Holland was appointed to the role by Ellison in August 2025 when Skydance completed its takeover of Paramount. She was key in luring the Duffer brothers away from Netflix with a major output deal.

Paramount is expected to close its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery as soon as the company receives official court approval for its settlement with 12 state attorneys general in the antitrust lawsuit initially designed to stop the merger. Court approval could be granted as soon as this week.
