Sling TV isn’t afraid to make some daring decisions with the way it offers programming, but one product in the Sling stable lands among the ranks of more standard streaming fare: the free, ad-supported streaming service Sling Freestream. This platform has hundreds of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels to browse, as well as a vast library of on-demand shows and movies.

As a free streaming service, it would stand to reason that Sling Freestream may not have the same type of features as paid streaming services offer — including the ability to control autoplay. Does Sling Freestream give you the power to adjust this setting? We checked it out here.

Can you disable autoplay on Sling Freestream?

Yes — at least on select devices. During my user test of the service, I found I was able to change autoplay settings on my connected TV (in this case, my Fire TV), as well as my laptop.

My phone was a bit of a different story. I didn’t see the ability to change autoplay settings on Sling Freestream’s mobile app, but I should also note that Sling Freestream doesn’t really employ autoplay on its mobile app, at least not to the same degree as it does on the connected TV app and website.

How to turn off autoplay on Sling Freestream

To turn off autoplay on the Sling Freestream website, go to the profile icon with the first letter of your profile name in the top-right corner. In the settings menu, click Content Controls to find autoplay. Then, toggle it on or off at your leisure.

Within the Sling connected TV app, find Settings in the left-hand menu, and scroll down to Device Settings. This is the submenu in which you’ll find the autoplay setting controls on the Sling app for connected TV devices.

Does disabling autoplay on one device affect all Sling Freestream devices?

No, you will have to disable autoplay on both connected TV and on the web if you want it turned off on both platforms on Sling Freestream. Disabling it on one device will have no effect on the settings on your other devices.

Can you turn autoplay back on with Sling Freestream?

Absolutely. All you have to do is locate the setting again within the Sling Freestream menu, and you’ll be able to change it whenever you need to.
