‘Desperate Housewives’ spinoff ‘Wisteria Lane’ lands at Hulu
The spinoff is now set up for development at Onyx Collective, which means it will stream on Hulu eventually.
If you’ve been missing the juicy secrets and backroom whispers of “Desperate Housewives,” this is the news you’ve been waiting for. Deadline is reporting that a new spinoff of the series dubbed “Wisteria Lane” is now under development, and that it’s on its way to a streamer that fans of the show will find familiar.
Key Details:
- Back to Hulu: “Wisteria Lane” is under development at Onyx Collective, which streams its shows on Hulu.
- Big-name backer: The show comes from Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street and 20th Television.
- Sneaky secrets: The series will be a dark and sexy drama in the vein of the original show.
Deadline reports that “Wisteria Lane” has been set up for development at Onyx Collective, whose shows stream on Hulu. Original “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry said last fall that he’s had repeated interest from fans about a reboot of the show, after it celebrated the 20th anniversary of its premiere. Cherry was not part of the pitch for “Wisteria Lane,” but could become involved later in some capacity.
“Wisteria Lane” comes from Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street and 20th Television, and is written by Natalie Chaidez. Washington herself could appear in the show, though it’s not currently clear if that will occur or not.
The show is described as a darkly funny soap/mystery series, much like its predecessor. It will center on a group of five friends who all reside on the outwardly perfect Wisteria Lane. They all appear to be living the dream, but behind closed doors are sexy secrets and juicy drama just waiting to be unearthed.
“Desperate Housewives” first launched in the same season as “Grey's Anatomy,” which has been on the air ever since. It starred Terri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan as five women who live on Wisteria Lane, whose lives are turned upside-down when their neighbor Mary Alice Young commits suicide.
You can stream the original “Desperate Housewives” on either Hulu or Prime Video, but if you are interested in this spin-off series, it is likely best to go with Hulu.
Considering the show is still under development, it will likely be many months before it’s actually ready to premiere on Hulu. But keep the faith, “Desperate Housewives” fans, your prayers for more tea-spilling tales have finally been answered.
