discovery+ is raising its price on all subscription plans

Despite the rate increase, the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer is still one of the cheapest major on-demand platforms

While it is still relatively cheap compared to others in the streaming world, the price of streaming your favorite unscripted series on discovery+ is about to go up. As is often the case, the price hikes will take effect immediately for cord-cutters looking to sign up for the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer, but existing customers will have 30 days before the new prices are reflected on their bills.

Key Details:

  • discovery+ has announced a price increase for the first time in 14 months.
  • The increase is now in effect for new customers and will hit existing customers after Feb. 7.
  • Despite the rate hike, the WBD-owned platform is still one of the cheapest on the market.

Beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 7, the price for the streamer’s ad-supported tier will increase by $1 from $5 to $6. discovery+’s ad-free plan will also go up by a dollar from $9 to $10. Existing subscribers will see the new prices take effect with their first billing beginning on or after Friday, Feb. 7. The platform last raised its price in October 2023, but that was only on its ad-free tier. At that time, the price went from $7 per month to $9.

In terms of on-demand streaming services, discovery+ is still one of the cheapest platforms from major media companies. It offers titles from WBD cable channels like Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, OWN, Travel Channel, and [Science Channel]; as well as licensed content from A&E, Lifetime, History, and others. In addition, discovery+ releases its own originals and has around-the-clock channels of some of its most popular titles like “House Hunters,” “Chopped,” “Fixer Upper,” and more.

Much of the content found on discovery+ is also available on Max, but the rates on WBD’s other streamer begin at $10 per month and range up to $21 monthly. So for streamers who aren’t interested in the prestige dramas and comedies that HBO and Max put out, discovery+ is still a tremendously cost-efficient way to stream the cooking, home reno, dating, paranormal, and true crime programs that they love.
