Are you able to stream anything on Philo in 4K?

Are you able to stream anything on Philo in 4K?

Philo has a sneaky high-quality selection of channels, but what about 4K options? Does it allow you to stream in UHD?

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Philo has no 4K shows or movies to enjoy.

For audience members who don’t need to watch live sports, and can receive their local broadcast channels with an over-the-air antenna, Philo is an incredible option. This service comes with nearly 20 of The Streamable’s top cable channels, and a wide range of on-demand content from AMC+ (with ads) for just $28 per month.

Philo cuts out sports channels and other expensive-to-carry cable networks in order to give its customers a lower monthly price. But what about premium features like the ability to stream in Ultra-High-Definition 4K? Does Philo have that resolution available to subscribers? Find out more here.

What you need to know about streaming in 4K on Philo

Does Philo stream in UHD 4K?

Philo has a wide range of content, as specified above. It comes with both on-demand content and live channels, but unfortunately, none of this content is available to stream in 4K. The streaming service tops out at 720p streaming for its live channels, and 1080p full HD for on-demand content.

Why doesn’t Philo have 4K content?

The absence of a premium feature like 4K on Philo is another example of the trade-off that comes with the lower price of a Philo subscription. At $28 per month, Philo is considerably less than half the price of live TV streaming services like Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV.

But of course, a lower monthly price means fewer little extras like 4K. Most live TV services offer very little 4K content anyway, as very few broadcast or cable channels have the equipment needed to send out 4K broadcasts in the first place. So, you’re not missing all that much with the absence of 4K on Philo.

Will Philo add any 4K content in the future?

Never say never, but almost certainly no. Philo occupies an important position in the hierarchy of live TV streaming options, and I suspect it wants to maintain its position as a budget-friendly service. Adding 4K content will be an expense that would likely be passed onto the consumer, and I suspect Philo wants to avoid that eventuality if at all possible.

Philo

Philo is a live TV streaming service designed for entertainment lovers, offering flexible ways to watch without the high price of traditional TV bundles. The service now features two paid plans — Essential and Bundle+ — alongside its existing free streaming offering, giving customers a range of options depending on how much live and premium content they want.

…

The Essential plan costs $25 per month and includes 70+ live TV channels focused on entertainment and lifestyle programming, such as AMC, HGTV, Hallmark Channel, Nickelodeon, and Food Network. Subscribers also get access to 120+ free streaming channels, more than 80,000 movies and shows on demand, and unlimited DVR with one-year storage. Essential also includes a 7-day free trial for new customers.

For viewers who want more premium content, Philo offers the Bundle+ plan for $33 per month (formerly the Philo Core plan). Bundle+ includes everything in Essential, plus ad-supported AMC+ and access to the HBO Max (Basic with Ads) app. Users can also access discovery+ content directly within the Philo app. While Bundle+ adds a full premium streaming bundle for just $8 more per month, it does not include a free trial.

The service is available on most major devices, including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, mobile devices, and web browsers. In addition to its paid plans, Philo also offers a free ad-supported streaming experience, allowing users to explore content before deciding whether to upgrade to a live TV subscription.

While it doesn’t include local broadcast stations or sports networks like ESPN, FS1 or NBC Sports Network, Philo remains one of the most affordable live TV streaming options for entertainment-focused viewers. With a simple lineup, generous DVR storage, and a clear path from free streaming to live TV and premium bundles, Philo is an appealing choice for cord-cutters who want to keep costs down while still enjoying a wide range of popular programming.
