Does Philo offer any parental controls?

Does Philo offer any parental controls?

Philo combines adult cable channels with great selections for kids, but does it back that mix up with parental controls?

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Philo doesn't come with any parental controls.

There’s no question that Philo is one of the best ways to get top cable entertainment channels without having to pay for top sports networks and local broadcast channels. The absence of such networks is what makes Philo so affordable; its Core channel package starts at just $38 per month and comes with a cool lineup of popular networks.

That mix includes channels that are definitely geared toward adults, such as AMC and Paramount Network, as well as networks that include tons of content for kids, like Discovery, Food Network, and Nickelodeon. With all those choices, does Philo offer parental controls to let parents allow children to stream Philo safely? We have more details here.

Everything you need to know about parental controls on Philo

Does Philo have any parental controls?

Unfortunately, Philo does not offer any parental controls of any kind. The use of parental controls to restrict kids’ access to content is widely available with on-demand streaming services, but results are a bit more mixed with live TV streamers like Philo.

Is there anything parents can do to keep kids from seeing adult content on Philo?

There are still a couple of ways parents can keep kids from seeing TV shows and movies they shouldn’t be watching on their own with a Philo subscription. First, log out every time you finish watching Philo on your devices, and keep your password private to make sure kids can’t log in and watch without you.

The other is to set up profiles specifically for kids to use. These won’t include any age restrictions, but they will let you continue to watch only kids’ titles with your children, so the recommendation algorithm on that profile will be more likely to suggest other children’s titles in the future.

Will Philo add parental controls in the future?

Philo hasn’t said anything official to indicate it planned to put parental controls into its platform, but it can’t be counted out. The streamer even has a Help Center page devoted to parental controls, and while it says now that Philo has no such controls “currently,” its very existence would seem to indicate that parental guidelines are coming.

Philo

Philo is a live TV streaming service designed for entertainment lovers, offering flexible ways to watch without the high price of traditional TV bundles. The service now features two paid plans — Essential and Bundle+ — alongside its existing free streaming offering, giving customers a range of options depending on how much live and premium content they want.

…

The Essential plan costs $25 per month and includes 70+ live TV channels focused on entertainment and lifestyle programming, such as AMC, HGTV, Hallmark Channel, Nickelodeon, and Food Network. Subscribers also get access to 120+ free streaming channels, more than 80,000 movies and shows on demand, and unlimited DVR with one-year storage. Essential also includes a 7-day free trial for new customers.

For viewers who want more premium content, Philo offers the Bundle+ plan for $33 per month (formerly the Philo Core plan). Bundle+ includes everything in Essential, plus ad-supported AMC+ and access to the HBO Max (Basic with Ads) app. Users can also access discovery+ content directly within the Philo app. While Bundle+ adds a full premium streaming bundle for just $8 more per month, it does not include a free trial.

The service is available on most major devices, including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, mobile devices, and web browsers. In addition to its paid plans, Philo also offers a free ad-supported streaming experience, allowing users to explore content before deciding whether to upgrade to a live TV subscription.

While it doesn’t include local broadcast stations or sports networks like ESPN, FS1 or NBC Sports Network, Philo remains one of the most affordable live TV streaming options for entertainment-focused viewers. With a simple lineup, generous DVR storage, and a clear path from free streaming to live TV and premium bundles, Philo is an appealing choice for cord-cutters who want to keep costs down while still enjoying a wide range of popular programming.
