When looking for a streaming service that has the hottest new movie release, or a show from a big-name franchise, viewers think of platforms like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, or the like. Pluto TV isn’t high on the list for a reason: the streamer doesn’t come with a wide selection of new releases or originals, but it does include a big library of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels and on-demand TV shows and movies that are packed with laughs, gasps, and nostalgia.

Does Pluto TV have premium audio formats?

The most common premium audio option included with on-demand streaming content is 5.1 surround sound. This creates a more theatrical viewing experience, but like most other free streaming services, Pluto TV does not have surround sound with its FAST channels and on-demand video.

Likewise, Pluto TV does not include spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, or any other kinds of premium audio options. Stereo sound is the best a viewer can expect when streaming free TV and movies on Pluto TV.

Will Pluto TV ever add premium audio?

Pluto TV is owned by Paramount Skydance, and the company’s ownership team has made several public commitments to upgrading the paid Paramount+ streaming service. That platform has premium audio selections already, and while it may get more to come, there is unlikely to be any similar upgrade for Pluto TV.

Alongside the live grid, there is also a hefty on-demand vault filled with older Hollywood catalog films, cult classics, and complete archived series.

Because Pluto TV mirrors linear broadcast television, you cannot pause or fast-forward through commercial breaks, nor is there a cloud DVR feature to record airings for later viewing. That said, it’s a great alternative for those looking for a wide range of channels without subscription fees.
