Can you watch any 4K shows or movies on Xumo Play?
Xumo Play is a free streamer, but does that automatically mean it has no 4K titles?
Xumo Play is just another interesting facet in the larger Xumo tapestry. Xumo is actually a joint venture between Charter Communications and Comcast, two of the largest pay-TV distributors in the United States. Among other goals, Xumo is intended to help bring the worlds of cable and streaming closer together, and the free Xumo Play streaming service is one of the key ways it helps deliver content to customers.
But is any of that content available in 4K? Xumo Play has a wide range of content to be sure, but most free streaming services don’t offer 4K, a premium video format most often found on the most expensive streaming plans. Keep reading to learn more about whether Xumo Play has any 4K titles!
Everything you need to know about 4K on Xumo Play
Does Xumo Play offer any 4K content?
First, the bad news: Xumo Play does not have any 4K TV shows or movies in its extensive collection of free streaming content. Like other free streamers, Xumo Play lives off ad revenues, and without the added income of customer subscription fees, it’s hard for these services to justify 4K video support.
The good news is that Xumo Play does carry more than 350 free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels, as well as thousands of TV episodes and movies from studios all over Hollywood. You’ll never have to pay for access to Xumo Play, and it’s available on a wide selection of platforms.
Do any Xumo devices support 4K?
As alluded to above, the Xumo brand encompasses much more than just the Xumo Play streaming service. Xumo also sells what it calls the Xumo Stream Box, a streaming device that supports 4K playback. You can stream a wide range of apps that support 4K video on the Xumo Stream Box, including Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, Prime Video, and more.
There are lots of ways to get an Xumo Stream Box. You can get one with your Spectrum TV plan, or as an Xfinity Internet customer. Many plans include an Xumo Stream Box at no extra cost or for a nominal fee, and if you want to, you can also just buy one directly from Xumo for $60.
Will Xumo Play ever get 4K titles?
As with other free streaming services, I wouldn’t count on Xumo Play getting any 4K content. There is a remote possibility, of course, but only in the sense that anything is possible. As a free streamer, Xumo Play is much less likely to add 4K content than paid streaming services.
