An ESPN tile is now available on Disney+, introducing sports to the service
The rollout further cements Disney+ as the company’s flagship streaming app, and raises plenty of questions about the future.
If you’re a Disney Trio Bundle subscriber, you’re going to love the new features available to you starting on Wednesday, Dec. 4. More specifically, the ability to watch live sports on Disney+! The service has officially launched an ESPN tile with a wide range of live sports content. We’ll break down everything you need to know about the ESPN tile on Disney+ below!
Answering all questions about the new ESPN tile on Disney+
Get Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for just $16.99 a month ($14 savings).
What’s in Disney+’s new ESPN tile?
The ESPN tile offers all the sports found in ESPN+, the on-demand streamer that is part of the Disney Bundle or available for a standalone subscription for $12 per month. It carries a wide range of sports, including select “Monday Night Football” games, college football contests, thousands of out-of-market NHL games, and tens of thousands of other selections.
Does the ESPN tile have a livestream of ESPN channels?
No. Unfortunately, there is still no way to stream the ESPN family of cable channels without a pay-TV subscription of some kind — for now. That will finally change when ESPN launches a new streaming service currently under the working name of “Flagship,” which will be available before the 2025 football season begins, however.
How do you find the ESPN tile on Disney+?
The ESPN tile will slot in next to the other branded tiles near the top of the Disney+ user interface. Viewers will likely also see top sporting events in their own, dedicated tile rows further down in the interface, and can search for sports content as well.
Can you watch any ESPN content on Disney+ free?
If you want to watch all the live sports on ESPN+ through the new tile on Disney+, you’ll need a subscription to both streaming services. Customers can get Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ starting at $17 per month for all three in the Disney Trio Basic Bundle, or cut out ads during playback by opting for the Trio Premium Bundle for $27.
However, standalone Disney+ subscribers will have access to a curated selection of live sports events, studio shows, and ESPN Films from ESPN+, as well as a select collection of TV series and films from Hulu. From ESPN+, this includes some exciting and unique events in the coming weeks, such as “The Simpsons Funday Football” animated Monday Night Football game, a Christmas Day lineup of five NBA games plus the “Dunk The Halls” animated NBA presentation, select “30 For 30” documentaries, and Day 1 coverage from the Australian Open.
Do you need to download anything extra to get ESPN tile on Disney+?
No, though if you are using the Disney+ mobile or connected TV apps, you will likely need to update those apps before finding the ESPN tile available.
Is Hulu still available on Disney+ as well?
It sure is! Earlier this year, the official Hulu on Disney+ experience launched for subscribers to both services. It allows customers to watch most titles from their Hulu subscription through the Disney+ app. The addition of the ESPN tile makes Disney+ a true one-stop streaming app for most customers.
