The trailer for “The Last of Us” Season 2 racked up 158 million views around the world in its first three days, making it the most-watched trailer for HBO and Max Originals in that time frame and outperforming previous promos for the show by at least 160%.
When is ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 coming out?
The first episode of Season 2 of “The Last of Us” will be available on April 13, 2025. The season will consist of 7 episodes in total, making it shorter than the first season. It’s unclear if all episodes will be available simultaneously, but they will likely be released weekly on Sundays.

What happened in Season 1 of ‘The Last of Us’?
“The Last of Us” Season 1 takes place 20 years into a pandemic that has decimated humankind. A fungal infection that transforms its hosts into zombie-like creatures has spread like fire across the globe, but one teenager named Ellie is discovered to have a natural immunity to the disease.
Joel (Pascal) is still haunted by the loss of his family but is tasked with bringing this teen across the former United States. They arrive at their destination, but when Joel realizes that Ellie’s life is to be sacrificed in order to develop a cure for the infection potentially, he kills all who stand in his way to rescue her.
What is Season 2 of ‘The Last of Us’ about?
Five years after his decision not to allow Ellie to be killed, Joel is tormented by the thought that he prevented a cure from reaching humanity. Now, he and Ellie will be drawn into a conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.
