HBO has confirmed when the long-delayed season will finally make it to the airwaves.
After more than four years, one of the most popular shows in recent HBO memory is finally set to return. The cast of “Euphoria” will be back for the show’s third season on Sunday, April 12, with a bold new storytelling premise. Not only will Season 3 feature a five-year time jump, but the show will also employ a film noir-inspired vibe as the characters have now put East Highland High School far behind them. The season premiere will air on HBO on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. We recommend watching with a subscription to HBO Max.

Why watch ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 on HBO Max?
Since “Euphoria” airs on both HBO’s linear channel and its streaming service, HBO Max, you have a handful of ways to stream the show. And, in our expert opinion, HBO Max is by far the best one. Watching on HBO would require a subscription to a live TV streaming service and a premium add-on to get HBO.
Now, if you already have a live TV subscription, it might be more beneficial to add on HBO than to subscribe to HBO Max, but if you are starting from scratch, HBO Max is the way to go. You can sign up for the streamer for as little as $11 per month on the Basic ad-supported tier, or you can upgrade to the Standard ad-free option for $18.49 monthly. If you are looking for 4K and other high-end features, HBO Max also offers a Premium tier for $23 per month.
Regardless of what HBO Max plan you sign up for, it will be far cheaper than getting a live TV streamer and upgrading to get the HBO premium channel.

Can you watch ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 for free?
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to catch the entire season of the drama for free, at least not for a while. HBO Max (our top recommendation for watching) does not offer a free trial, so if you are planning to catch the episodes as they are released, you will need to pay for two months of the service.
However, there are some ways that you could potentially watch the Season 3 premiere for free. Since the show airs linearly on HBO, there are a number of live TV streaming services that will allow you to sign up for a limited time for free. If you are looking to go this route, we would recommend you give DIRECTV a try, as it has the longest guaranteed free trial in the industry.
While you may be eligible for longer trials on other services, those trials generally fluctuate in length, depending on a wide variety of factors. So, you can check the likes of YouTube TV and Fubo to potentially get a longer trial (or go with Hulu + Live TV’s three-day trial), but there’s no guarantee that you will go through the signup process and end up with anything better than what DIRECTV is offering.

What is the buzz on ‘Euphoria’ Season 3?
The early critical reviews for the season have not been nearly as stellar as they were for the first two seasons. Following a four-year break between seasons, many critics feel that the gloss and young star power have been overshadowed by the repetitive, monotonous, and potentially misogynistic storylines.
Earlier this week, we broke down some of the more illustrative reviews from a handful of the most reliable critics. Take a look and let us know if you agree or disagree with them following the first episode’s premiere.
What will ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 be about?
The road to “Euphoria” Season 3 has been a long one, with multiple delays keeping fans waiting. The biggest setbacks came from Hollywood’s writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023, which put a pause on countless productions, including “Euphoria.” On top of that, scheduling conflicts with the cast - especially Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, who all took on major film roles - made it tough to align everyone’s availability. Tragically, Angus Cloud’s passing in 2023 also left a major impact, as Fezco was a beloved character whose storyline would have played a key role moving forward. All of these factors contributed to HBO’s decision to push the show back, but now, production is finally underway, and season 3 is officially happening.
So, what’s next for “Euphoria”? HBO has confirmed that the new season will take a creative shift with a film noir-inspired tone and a time jump, moving the characters past their high school years and exploring themes of individual principles in a corrupt world through Rue’s journey. Rue, having stayed sober through the end of Season 2, might be on a path of self-discovery, but nothing in “Euphoria” ever comes easy. The loss of Fezco will likely weigh heavily on the story, and without him and Ashtray, there’s a power vacuum in the town’s underworld that could bring in new players. Nate, having turned his father over to the cops, might be dealing with the fallout of that decision, while Maddy and Cassie’s fractured friendship could take a new turn.
And then there’s Jules - her final moment with Rue left things open-ended, making their dynamic a major question mark. While HBO hasn’t revealed much beyond the season’s aesthetic shift, it’s safe to assume “Euphoria” won’t hold back on the intense drama, heartbreak, and unexpected twists that made it a cultural phenomenon in the first place.
What happened at the end of ‘Euphoria’ Season 2?
Spoiler Alert: There are spoilers below for Season 2 of ‘Euphoria.’
If you have forgotten in the past four years since it aired, the “Euphoria” Season 2 finale was absolute chaos (for better or worse), packed with fights, betrayals, and heartbreak. It all goes down during Lexi’s play, which hilariously (and brutally) exposes everyone’s drama. Cassie loses it and storms the stage, leading to a full-blown meltdown. Things get even messier when Maddy jumps in, slaps Cassie, and chases her through the school, hinting that their toxic friendship might finally be over.
But while all of that is happening, Fezco is in serious danger. Custer, secretly working with the cops, tries to set Fez up, but Ashtray doesn’t hesitate - he stabs Custer, kicking off a tragic standoff. When SWAT raids their house, Ash locks himself in the bathroom with a gun, refusing to surrender. The cops fire, and Ash is killed, leaving Fezco devastated and in handcuffs as he’s taken away and bleeding seriously.
Meanwhile, Nate finally confronts his dad, Cal, and he’s not holding back. He shows up with a flash drive full of incriminating videos and hands it over to the police, leading to Cal’s arrest. It’s a brutal moment that signals just how broken their relationship really is. On a more emotional note, Rue and Jules share a bittersweet moment, with Rue telling Jules she loves her but choosing to walk away. In the final moments, Rue reflects on her struggles and reveals she stayed sober for the rest of the school year, leaving us wondering if she’s finally ready to turn things around.
If a short synopsis isn’t enough to get you ready for Season 3, you can stream the first and second seasons of “Euphoria” on Max now.
