David Schwimmer joins ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2, here’s what to know

The chills return with a new storyline, fresh faces, and classic R.L. Stine scares.

R.L. Stine’s classic “Goosebumps” books were some of my favorite reads as a kid. Even now, I still remember moments from “One Day at HorrorLand,” the book that took place at the horrifying amusement park (the twist ending is epic). When it comes to the original “Goosebumps” series, I’ll be frank: these were too scary for me as a kid. Even today, I don’t watch many hardcore horror movies because I’m not built to handle them. All that aside, I was pretty excited when Disney and Sony Pictures Television managed to hook up and reboot “Goosebumps” in 2023. The tone is light enough for me to handle, and the nostalgia factor is through the roof. If you missed the first season of “Goosebumps,” don’t worry about it. It’s an anthology series, so you really didn’t miss anything. But I’ll get you caught up anyways, and break down everything to expect in Season 2 – this time starring “Friends” alum, David Schwimmer.

Everything you need to know about ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2:

What happened at the end of ‘Goosebumps’ Season 1?

Spoiler Alert: There are spoilers below for “Goosebumps” Season 1.

The first season of “Goosebumps” brought the series back with a fresh, spooky twist, blending several of R.L. Stine’s most famous stories into one connected narrative. Set in the town of Port Lawrence, the show follows a group of five teenagers - Isabella, James, Isaiah, Margot, and Lucas - who get tangled in a chilling supernatural mystery after they uncover a series of cursed objects connected to the spirit of Harold Biddle, a student who died under very mysterious circumstances decades earlier. As the teens dig deeper, they realize their parents were involved in Harold’s death. Harold’s spirit, seeking revenge, begins wreaking havoc on the town, forcing the teens to confront both supernatural threats and their own dark family secrets.

In the season finale, the teens finally stop Harold Biddle’s ghost and get rid of the haunted dummy, Slappy, believing the danger is behind them. But their teacher, Nathan Bratt, still haunted by the events, makes the mistake of bringing Slappy back to life. This accidentally frees the spirit of Kanduu, an ancient magician whose soul had been trapped inside the dummy for years. Now back in his original body, Kanduu uses dark magic to turn everyone in town into life-sized puppets he can control.

When the teens return from a trip, they find their friend Lucas already under Kanduu’s spell and get lured into a trap where he reveals his true origin. Kanduu was once a dangerous magician who was sealed inside the dummy to prevent him from harming others - but now, fully restored, he plans to unleash even more chaos. The teens manage to break his spell and stop him, but Isaiah is badly injured in the process. Desperate to save him, Margot uses one of Kanduu’s own spells to bring Isaiah back, accidentally summoning Kanduu’s ghost again and leaving the season on a chilling cliffhanger.

What I love about this “Goosebumps” reboot is that while it leans into classic scares and supernatural suspense, it also balances the frights with humor and heartfelt storytelling. That makes it spooky but still accessible for older kids, teens, and nostalgic adult fans. It delivers genuine moments of tension without being overly graphic, staying true to R.L. Stine’s signature blend of fun and fear.

If that quick recap isn’t enough to get you ready for Season 2, you can stream all of “Goosebumps” Season 1 right now on Disney+.

Goosebumps

October 13, 2023

A group of five high schoolers embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle – while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past.

What is ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2 about?

In “Goosebumps” Season 2, called “The Vanishing,” the scares continue with an all-new story, fresh characters, and a chilling mystery set in the heart of Gravesend, Brooklyn. Siblings Cece and Devin Brewer, played by Jayden Bartels and Sam McCarthy, are sent to spend the summer with their father, Anthony Brewer (David Schwimmer), in his old family home. But what starts as a typical summer break takes a sinister turn when the teens uncover some dark secrets tied to their father’s past.

As things get stranger, Cece and Devin suspect the house might be haunted - or worse, cursed. Old family artifacts start to attack, and whispers of a long-forgotten disappearance in the neighborhood resurface. Tensions rise as Anthony’s strange behavior suggests he knows more than he’s letting on, leaving Cece and Devin to dig deeper into their family’s history while trying to survive the growing, seemingly supernatural threat.

Who are the main characters of ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2?

  • Anthony Brewer (David Schwimmer) – Anthony is a former botany professor and father to twins Cece and Devin. He’s mysterious and secretive, especially when it comes to his family’s past in Gravesend, Brooklyn. He’s got one rule for the kids: stay out of the basement.

  • Cece Brewer (Jayden Bartels) – Cece is one of the teenage twins spending the summer with her father. She’s curious, headstrong, and determined to uncover the truth when strange things begin happening in their home. Cece isn’t afraid to dig into her family’s past, even when things get chilling.

  • Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) – Devin, Cece’s twin brother, is a bit more skeptical but protective of his sister. While less eager to chase supernatural theories, he’s willing to get his hands dirty when the you-know-what hits the fan.

  • Jen (Ana Ortiz) – Jen is a police detective who stayed in Gravesend her entire life. A tragic event from when she was a kid makes her more invested in the strange happenings around the Brewer family, as she begins to suspect a deeper connection between Anthony’s past and the supernatural events in town.

When will ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2 episodes be released?

You won’t have to wait week by week for your spooky fix. All eight episodes of “Goosebumps” Season 2 will drop on Friday, Jan. 10, exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu. While you can watch all eps on day one, there’s no confirmed time as to when the new season of “Goosebumps” will drop. But Disney+ usually adds new episodes at 3 a.m. ET on the release date, so that’s a good bet.
