Everything you need to know about TOKU

What is TOKU?

TOKU is a paid streaming service that’s all about Asian entertainment, with a lineup packed full of anime, tokusatsu, and live-action shows and movies. It launched in 2015 and has become a go-to spot for fans of these genres, but it’s also great if you’re just curious and want to check out something new from East Asia. For those who are not familiar with the TOKU, its titles are sourced from Media Blasters, Tsuburaya Productions, MonoFilm Sales, and others.

Anime is one of the biggest draws on TOKU. It’s the vibrant, imaginative animated storytelling Japan is famous for, and it’s taken over the world with fans of all ages. TOKU has a mix of older classics and newer hits, so whether you’re already an anime fan or just starting, there’s plenty to dig into.

Tokusatsu is another huge part of what makes TOKU special. The word “tokusatsu” means “special filming” in Japanese, and it’s all about live-action stories with awesome special effects. Think superheroes, giant monsters (kaiju), and sci-fi adventures. It’s action-packed, totally creative, and something you don’t want to miss if you’re into epic storytelling.

But it doesn’t stop there. TOKU also has a ton of live-action films and series from across Asia. You’ll find martial arts flicks, horror, and dramas that let you see different cultures and storytelling styles. Whether you’re into fight scenes, edge-of-your-seat suspense, or heartfelt stories, you can probably find something you’re into with TOKU.

TOKU is a streaming service offering a variety of anime, tokusatsu, and Asian programming. Its titles are from Media Blasters, Tsuburaya Productions, MonoFilm Sales, and others.

How much does TOKU cost?

TOKU costs $4 per month. That gets you ad-free streaming across three simultaneous devices and downloadable content for offline viewing. The best way to watch TOKU is by adding it as a channel on Prime Video because that will get you the free seven-day trial, so you can test it before committing. Plus, Prime Video makes it easy to integrate the channel into your streaming set-up.

There are a ton of popular anime, tokusatsu, and live-action movies and TV shows on TOKU. One of the most popular live-action tokusatsu TV shows is “Kamen Rider 555,” part of the “Kamen Rider” universe. Originally airing in 2003, the series follows a high-stakes battle between humanity and the Orphnochs, a race of evolved humans aiming to dominate the world. At the center of it all is the mysterious Rider Gear, a set of powerful suits stolen from the sinister Smart Brain Corporation and used by unlikely heroes to fight back against the Orphnoch threat. With its dark tone, awesome action sequences, and themes of trust and identity, “Kamen Rider 555” quickly became a fan favorite, solidifying its place in the tokusatsu genre’s history.

TOKU also carries a few additions to the Ultraman franchise, including “Ultraman Ginga.” This 2013 series breathes new life into the legendary franchise with a modern story and dazzling special effects. It follows Hikaru Raido, a young hero who gains the ability to transform into Ultraman Ginga and battles to protect Earth from multiple threats. Combining action-packed battles with emotional depth and a nod to the franchise’s roots, “Ultraman Ginga” is a must-watch for fans of superhero storytelling and epic adventures.

For those ready to dive into an epic anime adventure, there’s “Super Robot Wars: Original Generation - Divine Wars.” This action-packed series is based on the popular video game franchise and follows a team of pilots as they battle to protect humanity from an alien threat using powerful mechas (robots or machines) known as Personal Troopers. With intense battles that feature human drama and futuristic warfare, the show is a must-watch for fans of giant robots and sprawling sci-fi sagas. Featuring English subtitles, it’s the perfect way to experience one of anime’s most iconic mecha series.

For those who love historical dramas with a twist of mystery, there’s the series “Young Sherlock.” While not about Sherlock Holmes, the show follows a similarly brilliant young detective, Di Ren Jie, during the height of the Tang dynasty. After traveling to the capital to take the imperial examination, Di thwarts an assassination attempt on Empress Wu’s life. Impressed by his bravery and quick thinking, the empress tasks him with uncovering the truth behind the plot. With its blend of historical intrigue, clever problem-solving, and samurai action, “Young Sherlock” is perfect for fans of gripping mysteries and sharp-minded heroes.

If you’re in the mood for something (much) darker, definitely check out “Meat Grinder.” This twisted Thai horror movie takes viewers on a chilling journey into the disturbed mind of a street food vendor with a horrific secret. As she struggles to survive in a harsh world, her descent into madness leads to some very dark discoveries about what really goes into her infamous noodle dishes… (hint: it’s not chicken). Known for its graphic scenes and unsettling atmosphere, “Meat Grinder” is not for the faint of heart, but it’s a must-see for horror enthusiasts who crave bold and shocking storytelling.

Finally, for an epic fantasy adventure movie, watch “Legend of Sudsakorn.” This 2006 film (also out of Thailand) brings to life the tale of Sudsakorn, a young man born of a mystical union between a human and a mermaid. Armed with a magical staff and a loyal dragon steed by his side, he sets out on a quest to find his father, facing mythical creatures, obstacles, and self-discovery along the way. Based on a classic Thai epic, “Legend of Sudsakorn” is a visually gorgeous journey filled with magic, adventure, and heart.

If you want to know what else is on TOKU, check out their channel page on Prime Video. You’ll get to browse all their categories, including movies and TV series.
