What is ‘Beauty in Black’ About?

“Beauty in Black” follows two women from very different backgrounds whose lives collide. Kimmie, played by Taylor Polidore Williams, is just trying to scrape a living together after being kicked out by her mom. Mallory, played by Crystle Stewart, seems to have it all as a successful businesswoman at the head of a cosmetics empire. Their lives come together when Kimmie uncovers a devious trafficking scheme linked to the family’s business. Now, both women must make difficult decisions about who they are and what they want.

With themes of survival, power, ambition, and corruption, “Beauty in Black” is a mix of personal drama and moral dilemmas, exploring how far people will go to protect what they’ve built… even if it costs them everything.

Who Are the Creators Behind ‘Beauty in Black’?

Before “Beauty in Black,” Tyler Perry was already making big waves with Netflix. His relationship with the platform kicked off with “A Fall from Grace” in 2020 – a thriller that follows a law-abiding woman who is indicted for her husband’s murder amidst a larger conspiracy. Perry then returned to Netflix in 2022 with “A Madea Homecoming,” marking the 12th installment of the iconic Madea franchise. Then, in a bit of a change of pace that same year, Perry delivered “A Jazzman’s Blues” - a sweeping love story that made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival based on a script Perry wrote in 1995.

In 2023, Perry took things up a notch by signing a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix to write, direct, and produce content for the platform. Projects under his first-look deal include “Mea Culpa,” a legal drama starring Kelly Rowland released earlier this year, “Six Triple Eight,” a historical WWII drama starring Kerry Washington to be released in December 2024, and now “Beauty in Black,” his first TV series for Netflix. All of this is cementing Perry’s spot as one of Netflix’s go-to creators for original content.

What Time Will Episodes of ‘Beauty in Black’ Come on Netflix?

“Beauty in Black” will debut eight episodes (the first half of season one) on Thursday, Oct. 24. The second half of season one will be released at a date to be announced. While there’s no confirmation on what time the show will drop, usually Netflix releases its new TV shows and movies around the world at 3 a.m. ET – which is 12 midnight on the west coast.
