FanDuel Sports Network streamer doubles subscriber total

FanDuel Sports Network streamer doubles subscriber total

The start of baseball season has apparently been quite kind to the regional sports network streaming service.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.

Walking through the hallways of Main Street Sports Group these days must feel very different than it did a year ago, when the company was still known as Diamond Sports Group. Not only is the company no longer in bankruptcy proceedings, but its on-demand regional sports network (RSN) streaming service FanDuel Sports Network is apparently on the rise. Main Street reported some key details about its operations this week, including the fact that in the past eight weeks, it has doubled its subscriber total to stand at 650,000 paid customers.

Key Details:

  • Double up: FanDuel Sports Network has doubled its subscribership in the past eight weeks.
  • Big strides: The last time Main Street disclosed subscribership for the service was May 2023, when it had 203,000 subscribers.
  • Youth movement: Users of the FanDuel Sports Network service are 12 years younger than its linear TV viewers on average.

Undoubtedly, the start of the 2025 MLB season was a massive boon in bringing customers to the service. Since Opening Day, the streamer is averaging 250,000 unique daily users. Main Street says its sports streamer is on track to hit 1 million subscribers by the end of 2025, presumably banking on similar growth with the start of the NBA and NHL seasons this fall. It’s a far cry from the last time the company revealed how many subscribers its direct-to-consumer (DTC) service had; in May 2023, the streamer — then named Bally Sports+ — had 203,000 paid subs.

Average time spent watching the service per game has increased to 92.5 minutes, up 9% year-over-year. And perhaps most critically of all, FanDuel Sports Network’s audience is 12 years younger on average than the average audience of FanDuel Sports Network linear channels.

“It’s exciting to see that our partnerships and unique offerings are resonating so well with passionate hometown fans and driving strong viewership and engagement across our growing subscriber base,” Main Street’s COO and GM of DTC Michael Schneider said. “Our ability to move fast and own the full subscriber journey gives us unmatched efficiency in acquiring DTC subscribers and harnessing viewership data to better understand and acquire more of these younger, local sports fans at scale.”

FanDuel Sports Network is available everywhere that a FanDuel Sports Network RSN carries local MLB, NBA, or NHL games. Main Street has 30 partners across these three leagues and has strengthened its position greatly since emerging from bankruptcy proceedings as a going concern last November.

FanDuel Sports Network

FanDuel Sports Network is a direct-to-consumer streaming service that offers live games for those who want access to your local FanDuel Sports Network RSN without subscribing to a cable or satellite package. It was most recently known as Bally Sports, and prior to that, Fox Sports Network.

…

The service has two plans: a monthly plan for $19.99 a month, or an annual plan for $189.99 per year ($15.83/mo pre-paid annually), after a 7-Day Free Trial.

In areas where fans have access to more than one FanDuel Sports Network sports network, an optional bundle allows the addition of a second channel. The monthly total for two RSNs is $29.99/month.

With the service, you can stream your local games from 13 NBA teams, 8 NHL teams, and 8 MLB teams. See the list below.

The service is only intended for those who live in-market to their local teams. If you live out-of-market, you will need to subscribe to MLB.TV (MLB), ESPN+ (NHL), or NBA League Pass (NBA).
