When is ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ flying onto streaming?
Critics are enjoying the new Marvel Cinematic Universe film, but when do we think you’ll be able to stream it at home?
Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe about to start a new hot streak? “Thunderbolts*” was well received by both audiences and reviewers, and it looks as if “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set to continue the trend. The movie is getting good buzz ahead of its release on Friday, July 25, but when will it make its streaming debut? We’ll give you our thoughts here.
Key Details:
- Fantastic reception: The new MCU film is drawing the approval of critics so far.
- Bound for the Mouse House: Like all Marvel titles, the movie will stream on Disney+.
- Not until fall: A wait of around 100 days for “The Fantastic Four” to stream seems likely.

“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” takes place four years after the titular team of Reed Richards, Johnny and Sue Storm, and Ben Grimm were exposed to the cosmic rays that imbued each with superpowers. Enjoying their lives as their Earth’s only superheroes, the team is shocked by the arrival of the Silver Surfer, who informs them that their planet has been marked for destruction by a mysterious being known as Galactus.
It’s early days yet, but “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is getting solid marks from reviewers. Based on 135 reviews as of the time of this writing, the movie has an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise for the film’s design and a cast chemistry that leaves past versions of “The Fantastic Four” in the dust.

When will ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ be available to stream?
Before we get to the when, we’ll talk about the where. As an MCU title, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will stream on Disney+ as soon as it’s no longer exclusive to theaters and premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms that let you rent movies that haven’t been released on home video, such as Prime Video.
Now back to the when of it all. I don’t expect “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” to be a quick release, based on the recent history of Marvel movies. For example, “Captain America: Brave New World” didn’t reach streaming until 103 days after its release, and “Thunderbolts*” does not yet have a streaming date yet, despite being released over 80 days ago.
I’d predict that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will spend 105 days taking a tour through theaters and PVOD platforms, and will thus be available to stream on Disney+ starting Wednesday, Nov. 5. That could allow the movie to have a holiday viewing renaissance on streaming as well as a solid theatrical window.
