Frndly TV Could Lose Great American Family Tomorrow; Where Else to Stream GAF
Great American Family and Frndy TV are still negotiating, but if the channel goes dark on the service there are other ways to watch.
There’s a new carriage dispute brewing in the TV world, and though it may not impact as many customers as the dustup between Disney and DIRECTV which was settled in mid-September, it will nonetheless be disruptive to viewers if it comes to pass. The latest potential eruption is between Frndly TV and the Great American Family channel, which could go dark on Frndly TV as of Oct. 1.
Key Details:
- GAF began warning customers via a pop-up message that it could go dark on Frndly TV.
- Frndly representatives say the two sides are still negotiating.
- Philo is the cheapest alternative for watching GAF if it becomes unavailable on Frndly TV.
Over the weekend, GAF began informing its customers that it was facing a potential dispute with Frndly TV. A pop-up message informed viewers that the channel could go dark as soon as Oct. 1, and instructed them to contact Frndly TV to urge the distributor to agree to a deal that will keep the channel on the skinny bundle service.
There’s no official word from either side as to why the dispute is cropping up, but it is almost certainly due to the two sides’ current carriage agreement ending at the end of September. According to It's a Wonderful Movie, Frndly representatives say the two sides are still negotiating. As with all carriage negotiations, it’s likely that GAF wants a higher carriage fee than Frndly TV wants to give, lest the streamer has to raise prices from the current $8-per-month starting point it currently offers.
Great American Family is a cable network that aims to deliver family-friendly entertainment, usually with an underlying Christian message or theme. It carries a wide range of heartwarming titles similar to the Hallmark Channel, and also airs reruns of classic shows like “Bewitched” and “I Dream of Jeannie.”
Where Else Can You Watch Great American Family?
If you’re looking to keep your access to Great American Family if it becomes unavailable on Frndy TV, your best alternative is a subscription to Philo. This service costs $28 per month, and it offers Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, TLC, and other family-friendly options, along with free access to an ad-supported AMC+ account. Philo also comes with a seven-day free trial so you can give it a thorough look-over before paying for service.
Sling TV is another good, lower-cost option for watching Great American Family. Its base package starts at $40 per month, though you’ll need an add-on pack to get GAF with this service. The channel comes as part of the Heartland Extra add-on pack for $6 per month on top of a base subscription, which also features networks like the American Heroes Channel, the Cowboy Channel, and more.
Sling packages come with popular cable channels like ESPN, USA Network, Food Network, History and many more. It’s a great way to watch GAF and balance it out with mainstream channel options as well.
