Fubo’s Q2 earnings report to yield pretty promising results
The streamer likely lost customers once again during the quarter, but that is to be expected given the sports calendar.
Fubo isn’t quite ready to report its full earnings for the second quarter of 2025, but it’s getting close. The streamer’s full earnings report is coming on Friday, Aug. 8, but Fubo has released preliminary results for the quarter. The biggest headline is that revenue is exceeding expectations for the sports-first live TV streaming service, even if subscribers have taken a dip, which is to be expected for this time of year, in the relatively quiet period in the sports calendar. Although, football is right around the corner, which always bodes well for the live TV streaming service.
Key Details:
- Do you one better: Fubo’s second quarter revenue in North America is due to exceed forecasts by $20 million.
- Subscriber backslide: Subscribers are expected to exceed 1.35 million, fewer than the streamer had in the first quarter.
- Net loss, but…: Fubo’s net loss of $8 million for the quarter is an improvement of $18 million year over year..
Fubo’s preliminary earnings data shows that the streamer will exceed revenue expectations in both North America and the rest of the world. Prior guidance for the service suggested its total revenue for Q2 would reach $345 million in North America and $7 million in the rest of its limited markets around the world by the midpoint of the year. Instead, those numbers will reach at least $365 million and $8.5 million, respectively.
The news isn’t quite so rosy from a subscriber standpoint. Fubo says its North American subscriber base will exceed 1.35 million in the second quarter, a number that also exceeds forecasts of 1.24 million. However, it’s still a pullback from the 1.47 million North American subscribers the streamer had at the end of the first quarter. The service will also have at least 340,000 subscribers outside North America. However, with the NFL preseason set to start on Thursday, and college football less than a month away, the streamer will likely benefit from a healthy subscriber rebound in Q3.
Fubo still expects to show a net loss in the second quarter of the year, though it has narrowed the loss for this period year-over-year. Fubo will lose approximately $8 million in Q2, a YoY improvement of $18 million. Adjusted EBITDA will reach at least $20 million, a YoY jump of at least $30 million, and the first quarter of positive adjusted EBIDTDA in Fubo’s history.
There was another interesting note in the Fubo preliminary earnings report: the streamer plans to stop providing guidance on future results while its merger with Hulu + Live TV is in the works. On Monday, Fubo announced that it had filed paperwork with the SEC to get the process of shareholder voting on the transaction started.
Keep an eye on The Streamable to hear more about Fubo’s second quarter earnings results when the full report is released on Aug. 8. In the interim, however, things look quite promising for the service as it heads into a fall sports season, which usually brings in new subscribers and revenue.
