Get More from Cable: Cox Adding Xumo’s Free Streaming Channels

The Xumo joint venture is continuing to spread its wings and distribute its channels more widely.

Cox and Xumo have a new partnership, allowing Cox cable customers to watch Xumo FAST channels free of charge.

Cox cable customers may want to check their channel guides! The company has announced a new partnership with Xumo Enterprises, which will allow Xumo-branded free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels to be integrated into Cox cable plans at no extra cost to subscribers.

Key Details:

  • Cox’s Contour TV customers will now find 20 Xumo FAST channels in their channel guides.
  • Xumo channels are also found on Xfinity cable plans and streaming devices.
  • Charter Communications and Comcast are the two forces behind the Xumo joint venture.

The announcement from Cox says that its Contour TV customers can now access 20 Xumo FAST channels with no additional monthly charge. These channels span a variety of genres, and though a comprehensive list was not provided, it’s likely that many of the channels are the same as the Xumo networks integrated into X1 streaming devices in June 2023. They included:

  • NBC News Now
  • Action Movies
  • Black Cinema
  • Bollywood & Indian Cinema
  • Comedy Movies
  • Comedy TV
  • Crime TV
  • Documentaries
  • Drama & Action TV
  • Family Movies
  • Food TV
  • Movies
  • Game Shows
  • Her Movies
  • Horror & Thriller
  • Kids TV
  • Reality TV
  • Sci-Fi & Fantasy Movies
  • Travel & Lifestyle TV
  • Westerns

Xumo has been busy spreading these channels around to as many outlets as possible. In April 2023, Comcast introduced more than 20 channels from Xumo, NBC and Sky into the Xfinity Stream app, which allows all viewers to stream free content and lets Xfinity TV subscribers watch pay-TV channels as well.

“Cox follows Xfinity as the latest MVPD to integrate Xumo-powered FAST channels into its linear guide, after the milestone integration on X1 and the Xfinity Stream app last year,” Cox said in a statement. “Xumo Enterprise has been syndicating and powering FAST channels on streaming platforms for years, and the Xfinity and Cox launches represent an important evolution in the company’s efforts to make FAST more accessible to consumers on a growing range of connected devices.”

Xumo is a joint venture between Comcast and Charter Communications, as a way to help viewers aggregate as much content in one place as possible, including on-demand streaming options, pay-TV and FAST channels, and more. Viewers can find a complete list of channels available on Xumo Play here.
