How many commercials do you see while watching AMC+?

How many commercials do you see while watching AMC+?

AMC+ isn’t one of the biggest names in streaming, but does it show as many ads as the industry leaders do?

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Find out how many ads you see with an AMC+ subscription.

Although AMC+ isn’t one of the biggest streaming services on the market, it carries plenty of shows and movies that have gained notoriety over the years. Shows like “Better Call Saul,” “Dark Winds,” “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” and a wealth of other premium content calls AMC+ home, and it makes a worthy addition to any streaming collection.

AMC+ offers two plans: an ad-supported option for $7 per month, or an ad-free tier for $10 per month or $84 per year. If you’re trying to determine if you can skate by with the ads plan to save a little money, but you need to know how many ads you’ll actually see when watching, keep reading! I took a deep dive into AMC+ to see how many commercials the streamer really shows.

How many ads does AMC+ really show?

How many ads does AMC+ show on original series?

AMC+ doesn’t offer a ton of exclusive TV shows, as it shares a wide range of its content with the AMC cable network. However, it does have a small selection of originals to test. I was able to try the half-hour series “Cooper's Bar,” as well as the hourlong show “Gangs of London” to test out how many ads I saw during AMC+ originals.

“Cooper’s Bar” consistently showed a 30-second ad before starting playback, and had three or four ad breaks per episode. Commercial pods were 30 seconds to one minute in length, adding up to between two and five minutes of ads per half hour. “Gangs of London” had the same length of commercial breaks, but featured seven or eight per episode, bumping the amount of ads to as much as 10 minutes per hour.

How many ads does AMC+ show on licensed titles?

AMC doesn’t add a lot of content from other outlets to its streamer, but I was able to give episodes of “Kids in the Hall” a try as a half-hour show. For my 60-minute series test, I chose “Interview with the Vampire,” a series that AMC+ shares with its cable channel AMC.

Both titles were consistent with what I saw on AMC+ exclusive titles. The 30-minute show consistently had three or four ad breaks per episode, adding up to between two and five minutes of commercials each. The hourlong series had seven or eight ad breaks per episode, for between seven and 10 minutes of ads each.

How many ads does AMC+ show on original movies?

I triple-tested this result, because when I tested it what I saw really surprised me. I turned on “Apex,” “Archenemy,” and “Dangerous,” and in each instance the movie started with one 30-second ad, then had no commercials whatsoever during playback. I’m forced to conclude that AMC+ doesn’t show ads during playback of original movies; either that or I just got incredibly lucky three times in a row.

How many ads does AMC+ show during licensed movies?

This result was a little closer to what I was expecting. I tested the 1996 classic “The Rock,” and saw 12 different ad breaks over the course of the movie. Breaks were the same 30 to 60 seconds in length that I saw on AMC+ TV shows, adding up to between 10 and 15 minutes of ads per film.

Does AMC+ have pause ads?

No, I never saw any pause ads while watching AMC+ content.

Does AMC+ put ads on kids content?

The problem with this question is that AMC+ doesn’t carry much in the way of kids’ content to begin with. Its Family section has just one title in it: the IFC game show series “Bunk.” I turned on an episode and didn’t see any ads, but if you’re really looking for kids’ content to stream ad-free, AMC+ might not be the best choice for you.

Final thoughts

AMC+’s ad experience was about what I expected it to be. I don’t think it overwhelms the viewer with commercials, and it even skips ads altogether during playback of original movies, which I thought was a nice bonus. I thought the number of ads during licensed movies was a bit excessive, but that was my only real complaint. I should point out that I saw the same Credit Karma ad multiple times while testing the streamer, so if repetitiveness is a problem for you, you may want to keep the mute button handy.
