Here’s how to add additional profiles to HBO Max

HBO Max keeps the process of adding and editing new profiles simple.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
HBO Max allows for the use of multiple profiles.

The amount of content HBO Max has, and the stark differences in the types of shows and movies you can find on the streamer, make using its profiles feature a must. If someone in your household is a DC megafan, while another is a Hogwarts devotee, having the ability to let household members segregate their watch history and viewing recommendations on their own distinct profiles is a must.

Fortunately, HBO Max has the ability to create multiple profiles, so everyone in the family can watch all their favorite titles without affecting the viewing recommendations for anyone else in the house. Learn more about using profiles on HBO Max here!

What you need to know about profiles on HBO Max

How many profiles can you create on HBO Max?

HBO Max allows you to create up to five distinct profiles. This is fewer than some other streamers allow; Disney+ and Hulu both allow for up to seven profiles, but five should still be enough to serve all members of a household in most homes.

How do you create a new profile on HBO Max?

Once you’re on the HBO Max connected TV app, website, or mobile app, find the Manage Profiles menu — usually, this will be found in your profile icon on various devices. You can also create a profile on the HBO Max connected TV app from the profile selection screen when logging in.

Click Add Profile, choose an avatar, a name, and decide if that profile will have kids mode enabled. Once you’ve done all this, click Save, and that profile will be available to use.

Why use profiles on HBO Max?

Using distinct user profiles with HBO Max allows users to keep their watchlists, viewing histories, and recommendations personalized and separate. That means subscribers won’t have to slog through long lists of content to find the TV shows or movies they most want to see, and their recommendations will be specifically tailored to each profile user’s preferences.

Can you transfer an HBO Max profile?

Yes, HBO Max allows you to transfer a profile from one account to another. To do so, visit the HBO Max website and click Manage Profiles. Choose the profile you want transferred, and click Transfer Profile, then Get Started to shift one profile and its associated watch history, My List selections, pin, settings, and avatar.

What settings can you edit in HBO Max profiles?

If you want to edit your HBO Max settings, you’ll find the ability to tweak content preferences, lock your profile, set a pin to unlock it, or choose your display language.

Can you delete profiles with HBO Max?

Certainly. Just navigate to the profile settings screen and find the Delete button at the bottom of the page to clear out a profile that has fallen into disuse.
