The Easiest Way to Cancel a Standalone Hulu Subscription
The Easiest Way to Cancel a Standalone Hulu Subscription
If you signed up to stream ‘Only Murders in the Building’ or another specific Hulu title and are ready to cancel, check out how to do so here.
Breaking up is hard to do, especially with streaming services that want you to keep your account. Streamers can sometimes make it difficult to cancel a subscription once you’ve got it, as they’ve got a vested interest in keeping you around to watch more than just a single show. If you signed up to a paid Hulu subscription or a free trial of the service to watch the new season of “Only Murders in the Building” or another series and are now ready to cancel, simply follow the easy instructions I’ll lay out for you below!
What To Do If You’re Ready to Cancel Hulu
Step 1: Make Sure You Want to Cancel
It’s always a bummer to cancel a streaming subscription, and then find out the newest title you want to stream is exclusively available there, forcing you to sign up for it all over again.
If you’re on a 30-day free trial subscription to Hulu, it won’t hurt to do your diligence and ensure there’s nothing else you want to watch on the streamer. In addition to “Only Murders in the Building,” Hulu offers a wide selection of content, including new movies, next-day streams of shows from ABC, Fox, and FX, originals like “The Bear” and much more.
If you’re completely sure you’re ready to leave Hulu behind, check out the simple instructions below for how to get out of a subscription!
Step 2: How to Cancel Your Hulu Account
It’s a pretty quick process to cancel your Hulu subscription if you know how.
-
First, open Hulu on your favorite device, and navigate to the Home screen. Locate your account menu in the top-right corner; if you have chosen an avatar, it will appear there. Otherwise, it will default to the first letter of your first name.
-
In the drop-down menu that appears, click on “Account.” You may be prompted to re-enter your password to confirm your identity. Once you’re on the account page, you can see all the information about your subscription. You’ll also see the “Cancel Account” button here.
-
You will likely be offered the chance to pause your account instead of canceling. If you wish to skip this step, continue on to cancel for good.
-
If you have Hulu as part of a Disney Bundle subscription, you’ll be directed to a Disney+ link that will allow you to cancel all services within the bundle. Disney Bundle customers cannot cancel one subscription within the combo and keep the others; all subscriptions in the bundle must be canceled at once.
Step 3: Consider the Alternatives
If you’re leaving Hulu behind but don’t want to leave any gaps in your streaming lineup, there are plenty of other general entertainment services out there to try.
Peacock and Paramount+ both fall into that category, and each offers subscriptions starting at $8 per month, cheaper than what you’d pay for a month of ad-supported Hulu at full price. Prime Video also offers a wide variety of entertainment types, plus the ability to add more subscriptions and aggregate your bill starting at $9 per month.
Free streaming services like The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Tubi all provide general entertainment as well, and though you’ll have to watch those streamers with ads, they are all available without a credit card.
Hulu
Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
