How to cancel a Netflix subscription
How to cancel a Netflix subscription
Netflix doesn’t make you jump through too many hoops to cancel a subscription, but we’ll show you how to do it with ease here.
Everyone has canceled a streaming subscription at least once in their lives. Month-to-month subscriptions have made canceling streamers a breeze, and the rising price of stacking multiple subscriptions has left most viewers in a cycle of signing up for a particular service to watch one or two titles, then canceling that streamer before they get charged for another month.
If you’re ready to cancel your Netflix subscription, you can do so with ease! Find out how to cancel a Netflix account, learn whether Netflix will keep your viewing data if you want to resubscribe, and see alternatives to a Netflix subscription below.
Everything you need to know about canceling Netflix
How to cancel Netflix
- Click here to log into your Netflix account.
- Find the drop-down menu next to your profile avatar.

Does canceling Netflix lock you out right away?
No. After canceling a Netflix subscription, you will still be allowed to watch the streamer until the end of your current billing cycle. Once your cycle is complete, you will lose access to your membership.
Will Netflix keep your history if you want to resubscribe?
Yes! Netflix will keep your account data on file for up to 10 months after you cancel your account. Should you resubscribe during that timeframe, your viewing history will be restored.
What streamers should you try after leaving Netflix?
Once you’re ready to say goodbye to Netflix, there are a few other great streamers you should consider. First is Apple TV+, which admittedly doesn’t have nearly the same size library as Netflix has. But Apple TV+’s high-quality original shows can stand up next to anyone’s in the streaming game, and at $10 per month for ad-free streaming it’s a full $8 cheaper than watching without commercials on Netflix.
Peacock is also an excellent streamer to try once you’ve ditched a Netflix subscription. Ad-supported streaming costs $8 per month, or ad-free jumps to $14 on this service. It’s got a bunch of older, beloved shows like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “The Office,” along with originals, Universal movies, and a huge lineup of live sports including “Sunday Night Football” and premium live events from WWE that put Netflix’s sports inventory to shame.
