Need to pause your Disney+ subscription? Here’s how to do it
Everything you need to know about temporarily suspending your Disney+ subscription instead of cancelling outright.
Having a Disney+ subscription opens the door to a huge library of TV shows, as well as animated classic movies that are approaching a hundred years old, newer films from the Disney and Pixar studios, titles from National Geographic, and a lot more. New Disney+ subscribers can plumb the streamer’s depths for years and still not find the end of its catalog.
But if you’ve been a Disney+ subscriber for some time and have run out of things to watch on the streamer temporarily, you might want to stop being charged for the service without having to outright cancel it. Is pausing a possibility? Learn everything you need to know about pausing Disney+

Can you pause a Disney+ subscription?
Yes, you can pause your subscription to Disney+ if you are using a monthly plan that is billed directly. This will allow you to temporarily end access to the streamer for a chosen period of time, and you will not be billed for Disney+ while paused.
Keep in mind that if you are on a Disney Bundle plan, you cannot pause your subscription. You will have to cancel the entire bundle in order to prevent being billed for another month of service.
How long will Disney+ allow you to pause?
Disney+ subscribers with accounts eligible to be paused can halt their subscription for between one and 12 weeks — about three months at the upper limit. This will allow viewers to take a good, long break from Disney+ if needed, without losing all their account settings.
How to pause a Disney+ subscription
- Log in to your Disney+ account.
- Hover over your Profile icon.
- Select Account.
- Click your Disney+ subscription under Subscription.
- Select Pause Subscription.
- Choose the duration of the pause.
- Select Pause Subscription.
You will have to pause your subscription on Disney+ with a web browser, either on a desktop or laptop computer or on a mobile device.
Can you reactivate a paused Disney+ subscription early?
Absolutely! If you find yourself missing Disney+ more than you thought you would, you can always restart a paused subscription whenever you want. To resume your paused Disney+ subscription, you can head back to the Account management page using the instructions above, then click Resume Subscription.
Remember, if you opt to resume a paused subscription early, you will be billed immediately, and your billing cycle will start on that day each month.
Why you might want to pause a Disney+ subscription
Pausing a Disney+ subscription is a helpful idea for any scenario in which the user needs to step away from the streamer but doesn’t want to cancel their account. Cancelling Disney+ will wipe out your viewing history and customized account settings, whereas pausing will allow you to keep these important details in place until you’re ready to return.
Customers who face a long period of travel to an area where Disney+ isn’t available will love the option of pausing instead of being billed while they’re away, and viewers who don’t see a new Marvel or Star Wars show on the streamer’s release calendar in the coming weeks might well want to watch something else until the next big franchise title debuts on the streamer.
Whenever you need to take a break from Disney+, the ability to pause your subscription is available — as long as you’re on a monthly plan that is billed directly. Pause your subscription for up to 12 weeks instead of cancelling to preserve your key account details and come back whenever you want!
