What parental controls does Paramount+ have?

Paramount+ offers kids and adult titles in spades, but what kind of protections does it have against kids seeing adult content?

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.

Paramount+ has plenty of titles for adult users to enjoy, from the works of Taylor Sheridan to Paramount Pictures movies to SHOWTIME titles for Paramount+ Premium customers. But the streamer is meant to be fun for the whole family, with titles like “SpongeBob SquarePants” and a wealth of other kids’ shows and movies available as well.

It’s key for a service like Paramount+ to offer parental controls with a library as varied as it has; otherwise, kids might be attracted to titles they aren’t supposed to be seeing. How does Paramount+ work its parental controls, and how do you set them up? We’ll show you more here!

What you need to know about parental controls on Paramount+

Can you set up kids’ profiles on Paramount+?

In a sense, yes. When you are creating a new profile on Paramount+, you’ll see an option to toggle Kids Mode on or off. You can do so when setting up the profile for the first time, or you can edit profile settings on any Paramount+ device and turn on Kids Mode whenever you like.

Doing so will allow the creator to set up the age restrictions they want. Customers can choose profiles for older kids that include content up to TV-PG ratings, or they can set it for younger kids and restrict the view to TV-Y and G-rated content. Browse and search functions will only display kids’ content when these restrictions are in place, and a PIN is required to turn them off.

How to turn on parental controls on Paramount+

Outside of setting up Kids Mode on profiles, viewers can also go to the Paramount+ website and navigate to account settings. Then, scroll down to Parental Controls, and toggle it to on. You’ll be asked to set an age range to lock out.

You will then be prompted to create a four-digit PIN to lock out content on profiles that are intended for young viewers. This sets up parental controls across Paramount+ devices, but it can only be adjusted on the streamer’s website, not on mobile or smart TV apps. Once you have a PIN, Paramount+ will ask for that PIN to be entered any time a user clicks a show or movie restricted by parental controls on Paramount+.

Can you lock out specific titles on Paramount+?

You can lock out shows and movies by rating on Paramount+, but there is no way to type in the specific name of a show or movie you don’t want to be seen on a particular Paramount+ profile.
