Navarro will have her hands full in her first Grand Slam semifinal, as she faces the two-time Australian Open champion, Sabalenka, who is the heavy favorite heading into Thursday’s match. No matter what happens, Navarro has had a breakthrough year, following up her Wimbledon quarterfinal appearance with a strong showing in New York. Pegula, meanwhile, took down the No. 1 ranked Iga Swiatek in her Quarterfinal match to claim her ticket to the semis. To get here, she erased a 1-5 deficit against her opponent Paula Badosa in the second set to win 7-5, and advance to the next round of the U.S. Open. On the other side of the bracket, Karolina Muchova will face American Jessica Pegula. Muchova, reaching her second consecutive U.S. Open semifinal, delivered a strong win over Beatriz Haddad Maia in two sets, 6-1 and 6-4.
