‘Amadeus’ brings Mozart, jealousy, and revenge to STARZ
Will Sharpe stars as Mozart in a five-part limited series about genius, obsession, and a rivalry that gets deeply personal.
The new “Amadeus” limited series is coming to STARZ on Friday, May 8, and honestly, this sounds way more fun than the average historical drama. I’m usually the guy sprinting away from powdered-wig prestige TV, but Mozart, Salieri, jealousy, genius, sex, faith, obsession, and revenge? That sounds way more fun. Will Sharpe plays Wolfgang “Amadeus” Mozart, Paul Bettany plays his rival Antonio Salieri, and the five-part series reimagines Peter Shaffer’s famous play as a messy, stylish battle over talent, legacy, and who gets remembered. Here’s how to watch “Amadeus” on STARZ.

What is ‘Amadeus’ about?
“Amadeus” follows 25-year-old Wolfgang “Amadeus” Mozart as he arrives in 18th-century Vienna ready to stop being treated like a child prodigy and start living like a real artist. He wants freedom, attention, pleasure, and the chance to make music his own way. Naturally, that causes problems basically immediately.
Once he gets to Vienna, Mozart’s life collides with two people who shape everything that follows: Constanze Weber, the fiercely loyal woman who becomes his wife, and Antonio Salieri, the religious court composer who cannot handle what Mozart represents. Salieri has worked, prayed, and built his whole identity around being gifted. Then Mozart shows up with this ridiculous, effortless genius, and Salieri starts to see him as a threat to his reputation, his career, and even his faith in God.
That’s where the story gets juicy. What starts as professional rivalry turns into something much darker and way more personal. Salieri becomes consumed by Mozart’s talent, and the show follows that obsession across 30 years, all the way to a murder confession and Salieri’s desperate attempt to tie himself to Mozart’s legacy forever. So yeah, it’s a historical drama, but it sounds less like homework and more like a prestige revenge thriller with epic music.
