Brett Goldstein gets real (and funny) in his first HBO special
The ‘Ted Lasso’ star trades the pitch for the stage in this one-night-only comedy event.
Most people know Brett Goldstein as the grumpy, foul-mouthed Roy Kent from “Ted Lasso” — and fair enough, the guy crushed it. But there’s way more to him than slow head turns and well-timed F-bombs. He’s a writer, producer, podcast host, and now, finally, the star of his own HBO stand-up special. In “Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life,” he drops the Roy Kent growl and brings his real-life charm and quick wit to the stage, riffing on everything from masculinity to “Sesame Street.” If you’ve only seen him on the soccer pitch, you’re in for a surprise. The special premieres Saturday, April 26 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO and streams on Max.

About ‘Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life’
“Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life” marks the Emmy winner’s first HBO stand-up special, filmed live during his sold-out North American tour. Shot at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in New Jersey, the special promises a different side of Goldstein — more personal, a little softer, and still just as sharp. He tackles everything from love and sex to masculinity and “Sesame Street,” all with his signature quick wit and self-deprecating charm. Known for playing Roy Kent on “Ted Lasso” and co-creating “Shrinking,” Goldstein uses the stage to pull back the curtain on his real-life anxieties and observations. And with original material written just for the tour, this special looks like it’ll be a unique mix of chaos, heart, and comedy.
